1.6 Billion dollars in tax incentives... you gotta love free market enterprise.
ReplyDeleteWell, we need to do more to help these small businesses. Yes they have 9 figures worth of profit, but how can they afford to pay full price? Poor things.
DeleteSo when the first phase is open, what's the over/under when residents in that area start complaining or picketing the site that Cerner is not hiring people from that area? I'll say 2 months.
ReplyDeleteWe needed Cerner downtown to save it.
ReplyDeletebet it wont take 2 months for them to start crying
ReplyDeleteThe Cerner folks are smart businessmen. They've just "sold" the property from one company they own to another with whatever tax advantages that produced. Next they'll wring every TIF and other concession they can and do whatever is the best deal for them with the property.
ReplyDeleteThe big announcement was to add 15,000 jobs, with 2200 as the first step. And of course, that was enough to get the city falling all over itself to give over $1 billion away.
Take a real look in about five years and see where this is.
7:03, then they'll wait until they've squeezed every penny of taxpayer money from the city before holding it hostage by threatening a move to KS. KS will fall all over itself to hand them whatever they want. But since these jobs are easily exported to low wage countries like India, Eastern Europe, etc...they'll pitter along until such time they can justify picking the thing up and going overseas, with an HQ in tax friendly Singapore or Grand Caymans.
