NYT CONSIDERS KANSAS CCW WINNING!!!

The nation's newspaper of record offers a detailed write-up of the gun rights debate in Kansas and the financial reality that really determined the outcome:

New York Times: Keeping Public Buildings Free of Guns Proves Too Costly for Kansas Towns

Money line:

"While Republican-majority legislatures across the country are easing restrictions on gun owners, few states are putting more pressure on municipalities right now than Kansas. The new law has forced some local leaders to weigh policy conviction against fiscal pragmatism in a choice that critics say was flawed from the start: Open vulnerable locations to concealed side arms or stretch meager budgets to cover the extra security measures."

None of this should make anybody feel safer but it's important to realize reality: In the aftermath of so many mass shootings last year, talk of crackdown has vanished and, in fact, gun rights in the U.S. have expanded.

  1. Perhaps a new slogan for the Sunflower state?

    Stick'em up!

    Freeze MF.

    We are straight shooters.

Choose: Brownback & Colyer -- or -- Smith & Wesson?

  2. As a new resident of Kansas, I will never go to a polling place, even though I always vote.

Thank god for absentee ballots. The legislature says it's cool for Kansans to bring their guns when they vote. You can imagine what kind of Kansans actually do that: socially backward, morally degenerate white trash ... typical Kansas Christian fundamentalist Republicans, in other words.

Why would any normal person risk his or her life to cast a ballot? I'll do it in the safety of my own home, thanks.

  5. I Will Survive A Shoot Out In KCMO1/12/14, 1:01 PM

Oh fuck me with 50 fucking baseball bats. I have lived in KS for many years and we have had the same fucking laws on the books and hell I same as never see anyone walking the streets looking like Billy the Kid. I can't even think last time I saw someone besides a cop with a gun on in plain sight. Now I am sure a few CCW people out there as I have many friends who now have such a permit. Guess what you fucking rocket scientists they never carry a gun unless they are going to places like Kansas City or Topeka and Witchy Titty. And then don't wear the whole time. These people have them to carry when they go around areas that have shooting and high crime. So if you wienie whackers would deal with the crooks and get them off the streets people would feel inclined to not want to carry a gun. I will tell you this packing heat to me is a pain in the ass. But then so is dying from the hand of a thug.

    Remember Harry Stone

  6. Who cares? Americans don't care. The gun laws on the books now don't work and can't work. I say pull the metal detectors out and let freedom ring. We don't need gun checks, security guards, and all the other garbage. If someone gets shot, no big deal, we love our guns.

You have little to worry about from gun owners, most can't shoot straight anyway. They carry guns to compensate for small members and sucky lives. They are paranoid and want to try and impress people by acting like Rambo. They are more likely to shoot themselves or a family member than they are someone committing a crime. Most long for the day they too can shoot unarmed minority kids.
