It took awhile but the facts in an ongoing "adult discussion" about the airport are finally hitting home.
Here's the best analysis out there:
SaveKCI blog: Reality Finally Lands At Our KCI Discussion.
Money line:
"This reality-check comes after several years, several million dollars and multiple single-terminal proposals presented by the Kansas City Aviation Department, apparently without input or indifferent to input from the airlines who would actually use and pay for them. Southwest, we now learn, is happy with KCI in its current configuration. And while they concede that some improvements could be made, they are relatively minor, not things their customers are demanding and could be made for a few million instead of a billion should we decide to do so."
With airport insiders speaking out there's really nowhere to run, hide or fly to in this debate that has moved this far by stifling any kind of discourse that disagrees with KCMO politicos, bureaucrats or developers.
But I want better restaurants when at the airport!
ReplyDeleteVan Loh has been planning on building his baby since he got here 10 years ago. At the time he thought he would have money from the feds. Even though the fed money is gone now, he is not changing anything. So when he builds it, he'll have his pictures and his plaque and when the airlines start pulling out, so will he, leaving us with a billion dollar bill, fewer flights, fewer businesses.
ReplyDeleteIf he really cared about KC, he would have listened to the airlines before he started this and would have held public forums 5 years ago.
The real money line is this: But today we learned that last year’s mantra from single-terminal advocates of “build it and they will come” might be better stated as “build it and they will leave.” Just ask Sacramento.
ReplyDeleteIsn't there some consequence for an executive employee telling outright lies?
ReplyDeleteOh, I forgot; this is KCMO.
Why would an executive tell the truth when those he answers to never do?
ReplyDeleteSave KCI should also read the case law on some of this alleged development. They'd find all the arsenal they needed to defeat this thing permanently.
ReplyDelete8:27 - Of what do you speak?
ReplyDeleteKC need to look at these airport Cinn, Pitts, Memphis. All were built as hubs and now are all basically empty. Why, great question the mergers of airlines and these new huge airports are left empty and residents are left paying the bills. But a lot like our prez lets try something again even if every other time it failed.
ReplyDeleteFael Abracadabra just crapped his pants!!
ReplyDeleteBut then, that's nothing new for the KC Falling Star editorial writer who continues to whine for the billion-dollar terminal plan.
Now lets see. The airlines caution us.
ReplyDeleteThe public seems to like the ease and speed with using the airport. The security guys say that various measures used with the present airport configuration would be better than the one size fits all idea and still we have people who want to spend a billion dollars to "fix up " the airport. Didn't we spend several million on art for the floor. Will that be tore up too.
Sacramento has had to learn the hard way. They got sold a bill of goods on their airport, but then they have always had fools running the place. They also voted for Light Rail and then the Land Park section was discontinued and the tax payers will never get phase two and three.
ReplyDeleteNow they are building street car lines into West Sac and that is a losing deal. Lets be as dumb as they are. Vote Yes Yes Yes
