KISS MACY'S METCALF SOUTH GOODBYE!!!

Two institutions in the last stages of decline decide to part company in the Golden Ghetto.

Check the shopping mall sad story:

KMBC: Macy's plans to close its store in the Metcalf South Shopping Center, part of a restructuring that will lead to 2,500 job cuts nationwide.

Seriously, it's surprising that either one of these places is still open given that shopping malls and department stores are nearly a thing of the past in the Internets era . . . This could be even worse news for Metro North where Macy's is the only thing that keeps the lights on amid a dwindling Kansas City consumer base that would rather shop @ Zona Rosa.

  1. US $9.35 billion (FY2013)

    Not bad revenue.

  3. $9.35 Billion?

Doesn't Walmart do that every week?

After a lame Thanksgiving Day parade, what do they have to offer?

  4. Didn't know Macy's was even there.

  5. Maybe they'll do to Metcalf South what they did to Ward Pkway. That's the only thing that could save it now.

Went to a mall this weekend. It was very live and well.

People still go to malls and department stores. Only people who don't are fat people who feel they can't find anything at a mall their size or are embarrassed to do so.

Do lazy people who say they don't have the time while sitting on their couch watching TV and playing video games.

  7. Shiny new Macys down the street at Oak Park made this redundant. Surprised they kept the lights on this long.

Now we just wait for Sears to go bankrupt and Metcalf South will be empty.

Any one want to buy a mall? Could probably get some sweet tax abatement deals.

Maybe start a mega church and go completely tax free.

K-Mart space is also now available on north side of the street.

The ghetto is taking shape nicely.

  8. Does the Toy Train run to Zona Rosa ?

  9. Metcalf South might have been a Macy's in name but it seemed more like a discount outlet. Went once and ended up having to drive down to Town Center because they didn't carry any of the items you'd expect to find at your average Macy's.

  10. I thought Macy's was one of the known anchors for a new mall to replace Metro North. They keep promising they are going to revitali that mall. We'll probably get another shitty Walmart like the replacement for Antioch.

  11. I am surprised that Macy's at Metcalf South lasted as long as it did. You could generally shoot a gun through it and not hit anyone.
I miss Jones, but that is just me. Guess I will shop at Kohl's now or the internet (probably the internet).

  12. Why would anyone care about vanishing department stores when we have the fashionable Walmart on every corner?

Walmart knows its customers. Sizes 22 to infinity and beyond.
