Tonight lets look at how we can improve diversity in Kansas City in order to honor the legacy of MLK on this day in his honor.

CHECK THE WHITEST PLACES IN KANSAS CITY THAT NEED TO BE MORE DIVERSE IN CELEBRATION OF MLK DAY!!!
Let's make this quick and dirty . . .
1. The Kansas City Fire Department Lacks Diversity And Proper Accommodations
Kansas City Fire Stations aren't ADA compliant. That's a fact, it's also illegal. Worse still, more than any other city department the KCFD has resisted a real effort to become more diverse. The KCFD has faced countless lawsuits from female workers for discrimination and inappropriate behavior. If there is room for diversity improvement among CITY DEPARTMENTS it should start with the KCFD.
2. The Crossroads Is Far Too White
It's probably good spirited Portlandia type disparity but there's still room for improvement in this town's most trendy district. Seriously, every First Friday it's like most of the minorities disappear from Downtown. Drag queens being the exception that proves the rule.
3. Kansas City's Advertising Game Is Way Too Vanilla
In both content and hiring, the Kansas City advertising game is woefully behind the times and their lackluster record on diversity probably offers an old school symptom of what's killing their industry . . . Besides the Internets, of course.
4. Mayor Sly's Closest Accolytes Are All Young, Middle-Class White People . . . Why?!?!
Derron Black seemingly scared Mayor Sly across Troost last year and I can't remember the last time he had a big public visit since the encounter. Moreover, Mayor Sly's biggest fans are hipsters or young,white professionals which is sorta strange in such a working class town.. It's time for the Mayor to mix it up and work on his potential fan base in the urban core.
5. TKC Must Find More Hotties Of All Demographics!!!
TKC has an unashamed penchant for blondes but that doesn't mean that I don't want to make Selita Ebanks my future ex-wife.

And so we want to recommit to finding hotties from around the world and from a more diverse cross-section in order to celebrate the rainbow of booty and cleavage shots out there . . . We can only hope Dr. King would have admired our commitment.

1) If anyone can legally demonstrate a pattern of racial discrimination by the KCFD, then they are free to initiate proceedings.
2) If the Crossroads is "too white" (a moronic description which is itself racist) perhaps it's because the hipster crowd of color congregates elsewhere.
3) KC Ad Agencies "too vanilla"? see items #1-2 above.
4) Mayor Sly discriminates based upon race and age when hiring staff? Did he also abandon all Black females when marrying a white woman? What's worse, Funkhouser's wife telling crude jokes around staff who she trusted, or James implementing a quiet policy of discrimination to favor young white professionals?
5) Most of us definitely appreciate hotties of all colors, but we know where to find those on the internet. Your continued reliance upon bait & switch tactics, actually limits your growth potential by offending 50% of the population. Besides, lots of people believe you're gay and use the hotties as your shield.
Based upon my own observations today, I would say that those who had the day off spent it like any weekend. While a minority of Blacks may feel obligated to attend memorial services on the MLK holiday, all others largely ignore the commemoration as it doesn't hold a special significance for them. And if the MLK holiday is just another routine day for you, it doesn't mean you're disrespectful or racist.
The MLK federal holiday was only signed into law in 1983 by President Reagan and first observed in 1986. The lobbying for this holiday actually began shortly after the death of MLK,Jr. in 1968.
Since Latinos are now America's largest minority group, some would question why they haven't been given a designated holiday.....they're probably too busy working to lobby for it.
