CHECK THE MAYOR SLY JAMES SELFIE AND SURPRISING SUPPORT FOR DISMANTLING KANSAS CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS!!!

This afternoon Kansas City Mayor Sly James was playing around with his mobile phone and then fired off this presser showing his support for tearing apart the KCPS:

Mayor James supports elements of proposed plans for increasing student achievement in Kansas City Public Schools

Money quote:

“There are many ideas percolating that I support so strongly that I suggested them two years ago,” said Mayor Sly James. “Every child in this city deserves access to high-quality schools. We must first accept that the status quo isn’t good enough. There are some great stories from the district’s schools but achievement isn’t widespread. We need to look at how we can re-envision the educational landscape to replicate current success stories and bring more of the best teaching minds to our City. I do not believe that equates to the state micromanaging our local classrooms, bold actions without accountability, or shipping students from the urban core to the suburbs with the expectation that they will succeed academically, socially, or emotionally.”

This is the way public schools ends given that our exceptionally popular Mayor with a beautiful smile is considering the CONSERVATIVE RED STATE GOP PLAN to dismantle a failing district . . .

I taught in the KC School system and ALWAYS had more than 30 kids.

That number is NOT the problem. The lack of a common sense curriculum in conjunction with repetative rote commitment to basics leaves students bereft of basic skills. The lack of discipline in the classrooms is a direct result of a politically correct approach to offenders and very little cooperation from parents and administrators.

Actually comitting to and teaching kids to read, write, add, subtract, multiply and comprehend the abstract applications of same for real life success is not that tough when supported by an administration and parents who are serious about learning vis a vis any number of politically sensitive issues which poisen the entire system.

The incessant obsession with race has, is now and will continue to wreak havoc in inner city schools and result in inferior education for students.

Just look at this stupid shit.

If teachers are unable to remove violent and disruptive students from class, because of "QUOTAS", then and I can't emphasize this enough, NO STUDENT IN THE CLASS WILL BE AFFORDED AN OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN. FUCKING PERIOD.

    "Fires fights and chaos."

This is the Kansas City School District.

Authorities will NOT enforce the needed discipline becasue of fear of being called racist.

  4. If your kids are NOT going to the ER because of violence then are they conforming to the culture of violence and aligning themselves with the instigators of that violence?

Intimidation, violence and the culture of violence runs, RUNS the KC School District because of the fear of being labeled a racist, or the fear of litigation.

Our President's solution to rampant African American violence?

Quotas of course, that only allow a percentage of each ethnic group to be reprimanded for violence.

  5. Time to permanently lock Washington DC out of our local school systems. State governors need to step up and take back the right of parents in each locality to control the education and discipline of their children. We need massive resistance against the progressive take over of our schools. If you can abandon this corrupt system and home school by all means do so, better though to regain control since they continue to tax us even when we don't use their schools. If we have to pay we must demand the schools answer to us, not DC.

  7. The fish rots from the head down. Violence in school is approved of by the government.

On July 26th Obama signed an executive order titled the "African American Education Initiative." The order essentially gives a green light for black students to misbehave in public schools. In two places, Obama's executive order calls on schools to reduce the number disciplinary actions taken against blacks students. The order specifically calls on schools too "not rely on methods that result in disparate use of disciplinary tools."

To comply, public schools would have to engage in a racial quota system of discipline. The executive order will create a new Federal bureaucracy to pressure school systems to comply with the president's demands. The executive order makes no mention of any effort to get black students to improve behavior.

There is a reason why blacks are more likely to be disciplined in school. Black students are more likely to misbehave. The U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Statistics reports that there is a huge crime rate disparity between blacks and other racial groups.

Based on those disparities, one should expect that there would be a disparity in frequency of bad behavior between black and white school students in the public schools.

The DOJ reports that the homicide rate in the black community is nine times greater than in the white community. Between 1976 and 2005, the DOJ reported that blacks averaged 13 percent of the population, but accounted for 59 percent of felony homicide charges and 53 percent of non-felony manslaughter charges. It also might come as no surprise that 93-95 percent of black homicides victims are killed by a black perpetrator. Most of the rest are killed by a Latino perpetrator.

In reality, blacks are already less likely to be suspended for bad behavior than whites. Often, white teachers and administrators are afraid to discipline black students for fear of being called “racists.” Even some black school officials are afraid of being labeled a “sell-out” by black students.

The executive order also states that black students "lack equal access" to education. This statement, by the White House, is outrageous and easily disproved. Across the nation, majority black public schools routinely receive more funding per pupil than majority white public schools.

Washington DC is the perfect example. It has the highest average per pupil funding of any public schools in the nation. It also has the blackest public schools in the nation. Yet, this over-funding of black students yields no results in terms of academic improvement. DC public schools are widely touted as the worst performing schools in the entire industrialized world.

If DC was a state, it would be the state with the highest average per pupil expenditure and the lowest average performance. More money does not equal better test scores

Now it is just worthless and disgusting.

There is always more racism here and it is always worse.

The Black Male Monster and his "I told you so" rhetoric. He's always right and everybody else is always wrong. Sly has no more credibility than the school board. but everybody wants bragging rights to identify and implement their plan and vision. Too bad this Black Male Monster's vision is so askew that even the suggestion of following through on his ill-conceived plan signifies widespread lunacy. Crazy is as crazy does. There is no relief in sight.

  13. Imagine a nationwide race riot that lasted ten months.

Then, image that 90,000 people are injured each month; 900,000 by the year's end.

Now, imagine that riot reoccurring year after year after year.

Would that be a national crisis?

    It IS a national crisis!

NBC reports that 90,000 students are injured in government schools each year. Their injuries are severe enough for them to be admitted to hospital emergency rooms. I assume these serious injuries account for about 10 percent of total injuries -- those not requiring hospitalization.

That is 900,000 intentional injuries each year at government schools, 90,000 of which are documented by hospitalization and, therefore, undeniable.

These are not accidental injuries or sports injuries. They are intentionally inflicted upon students by other students.

Not mentioned in NBC's report is how many of the documented 90,000 intentional attacks result in permanent injuries; nor does the report indicate how many fatalities result, immediately or eventually due to the attacks.

While the term riot may not be in proper use, it may also be inadequate. We could consider government schools to be scheduled riots that begin when each child leaves his or her home and ends when they arrive back home at the end of the day.

Government school teachers -- and the unions that protect them -- are inadequately performing their duties to educate our children, an education the necessarily includes adequate protection. Teachers are neither trained nor equipped to control violent students. In fact teachers themselves are often victims of violence and require protection.

  24. Yes, Sly's really atough guy when it comes to issues that he wasn't elected to address. He can cajole, threaten, logroll, push people around, and do everything else for glamour projects like the streetcar or reorganization of the KCPS.
But when it comes to being the elected executive of a city with one third the murders of New York, "unless he's made a strong mayor, gets local control fo the KCPD, and the legislature in Jeff City changes the gun laws, his hands are tied".
He ran for election for neither the school board or for director of the Convention and Visitors' Bureau.
    Please do your job.

  25. +1 7:16AM He spends more time avoiding his own job than he does at what he was elected to do. School board is a different system of governance. Meanwhile, the snow packed streets and decaying infrastructure go unabated. The only thing I'd add 7:16AM is vote for the other guy when he ramps up his election campaign.
