TKC QUESTION TONIGHT!!! WHICH IS WORSE: COMMISH NICASTRO OR UNACCREDITED KANSAS CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS?!?!

The political debate over the fate of Kansas City public schools continues . . . Sadly, too much politics in Kansas City public education is why so many people want out of the district.

Tonight's accusation:

KCTV5: Lawmakers call for investigation into state education commissioner

Here's the money line:

"The eight representatives and senators issued a statement accusing Chris Nicastro of failing to confer with parents and representatives of students in KSPS.

"The statement accuses Nicastro of deceitful and questionable actions regarding the future of the district, saying:

"Many lawmakers who represent the Kansas City School District are concerned about Missouri Education Commissioner Chris Nicastro's collaboration with the area business community and her failure to confer with the parents, guardians and representatives of the students who are dependent upon the Kansas City Missouri School District for an education."

Admittedly . . . It's impossible to argue against evidence that Nicastro has it in for the KCPS and virtually everything she does is rigged against the unaccredited district . . . Then again, this horrible sitch for the KCPS has been 30 years in the making . . .

Accordingly . . .

TONIGHT THE QUESTION GOES OUT TO EVENING TKC READERS . . . WHAT'S WORSE: COMMISH NICASTRO BIAS OR THE LEGACY OF UNACCREDITED KANSAS CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS?!?!

Again, this sitch is

- 30 years in the making

- 29 Superintendents later

- And about $2 BILLION in deseg money alone put toward the KCPS.

Now . . . You decide . . .

  3. No amount of money, consultants, superintendents, school board members, etc can fix it. The students and their parents have to value education. Right now they don't, they haven't for decades, and don't look like they will in the future. Every urban school district is fucked. They are filled with the same type of "students" with the non-caring parents. It can't be fixed by anybody but themselves and I just don't see it happening. Sure, there will be isolated cases but for the most part, it will continue to be a place to babysit people who are just waiting to be babysat in prison or on the gov't dole.

  4. No one ever engages the parents. Not the district, not our lawmakers. We are just an annoyance, a by product if you will, especially if we are actively involved and require either group to be accountable to us, the very people they are being paid to serve.

  5. 7:36, its the sad truth. I wish it was different, but it is what it is.

  6. Unacredited schools are worse. Sorry, I think we're throwing daggers at Nicastro for the same actions that the school district has already done. At least with Nicastro, there may be some hope to end the corruption of Kansas City Schools at the demise of children. It's tough on both sides but the argument seems to be centered on who is entitled to govern the money; not what's in the interest of children.

  7. What it looks like to me is that the KCMO school district has become an experimental project for anyone with an idea and persuasion. A school district lab rat that the rest of the nation is studying in hopes to find a solution to their own woes. Its a revolving door on the back end.

Like the poster above said, the problem to all of this resides in the home away from school authority. As easy as it is to bag on the district, there are woman trying to raise her kid or kids right. The numbers who arent are staggering.

We need more black men that hold position in the community to step up and start setting these kids right. Some are, but not enough. Its an issue that plagues the black community, and will take the black community to solve from within. Right now the politically correct thing to talk about is gun control.

  8. This constant adulation, blame shifting and excuse making is exactly what has bought the school district years of time. It is way past time to pay the piper. If anything the state needs to march through this sorry excuse for a school district and make heads roll. Where does it say if you are an educator or administrator that there is no accountability and you are entitled to have excuses made for you up to and including a pass on meeting standards. It is time for the untouchables to feel a little pain and it needs to be known that what has been going on in Kansas City will not be allowed anywhere in the state. Not only is the school district a joke, but this pattern of making excuses and rewarding dereliction is even a bigger one. Unfortunately it is the students and tax payers who are the brunt of it. It is past time to call it a game.

  9. Jesus, posted this story almost 3 hours ago and only 8 stinkin' comments. This blog sucks!!

Can't you find anything better to provoke the racists, sexists, or classists into their frenzied rants?

Like maybe Giesle breast feeding while getting her hair, nails and make-up done? Even fuck-her-in-the-ass-cum-on-her-tits guy or the nigger-hater dude (aka Chuck) would be a welcome diversion at this point.....

  10. These allegations all sound like some made up fluff. Much controversy about nothing. Folks won't utter a word when their house goes into foreclosure but cry because somebody is trying to fix a problem that they didn't try to fix themselves. You dug your whole, now hibernate.

  11. +1 9:53 PM Amen. I will say that Dr. Green seems to be a good champion but the rest of the school board, teachers, parents, community continue to make the same excuses and the public falls for it time and time and time again. What is the definition of crazy, again?

  14. It really gets old hearing about deseg and the negative history of KCPS. The current administration has been there 2 years. Those two years have seen two outside audits with no issues raised. Four or five years ago there were 19 issues raised during the audit. Things are changing, but it does not happen over night. If you had listened to the auditors you would have heard that this is the first time the auditors have been able to do their work with the same administration. In past years there was a change every year. Stability is very important. Dr. Green has signed a contract through 2016 with options for two more years. His cabinet has signed contracts for two more years. Do we really want to experiment on ideas that have proven to be ineffective in Indianapolis where CEE trust was born. Do we really want a bunch of old rich white men deciding what happens with our children? They couldn't find a public school if they had to. Ewing Kauffman was a champion of public schools, not privatized charter schools. He would have fired Aaron North immediately for the underhanded manner in which they are using his legacy. It is disgraceful. Tom McDonald and Aaron North should be ashamed of themselves. There is much more to this story than just let Nicastro take over. Nicastro has no clue what to do in KC. Peter Herschend should be ashamed of himself for his statement. He did not even address the bid rigging, but merely slammed the children in K.C. Kids that go hungry, have little parental guidance, listen to guns every night, and are the most disadvantaged among us. It is shameful and I think he needs to resign and take his Commissioner with him.

  17. You forgot a 3rd option:

    A: years of dysfunction
    B: NiCastro
    C: KIKI CURLS

The answer is C, Kiki Curls. I was told she was forced to sign the letter calling for an investigation of NiCastro HOWEVER Kiki should be investigated also because she has been responsible for this mess every step of the way. And now because of political expedience she is trying to disown the her education commissioner.

  18. Money thrown like pearls to swine.

  19. Ditto comments about Kiki Curls involvement and 30 years of KCPS failure is a lie.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Kiki is only 40 something, so I dont think anybody can blame her for 30 years (actually 40 yrs) of dysfunction. In fact, she is probably a product of the system herself.
Just remember what Arthur Benson, rescuer of the segregated school district. "The Supreme Court does not decree that these children get a good education, just an integrated one." Unfortunately, they are getting neither.
Green seems to have made some progress (I think because everybody finally realizes that their jobs and money are threatened). I think he should be allowed to continue, but I would yank his ticket immediately if sufficient progress is not made or if he leaves and we get another hack in there.
Just let these guys know that they are on a VERY short leash, and that they can be pulled back at any time for underperforming.

  21. A study has confirmed what we already knew: The expression of intelligence through academic performance is due primarily to genetic predisposition. Environment plays a role, but less than DNA.

What is true of academic success will also be true, on average, of economic success.

A drive through a low rent district of any major city is a drive through a neighborhood populated primarily with people with lower intellects. As the drive proceeds to greener lawns and larger, more expensive homes it is a tour of the intellectually blessed.

Cultural Marxism prefers to play the race card and blame economic disparities on bigotry and control of wealth. In reality economic disparity is not an expression of intelligence disparity, one that cannot be fixed by government programs that thwart freedom of association.

Achieving economic parity is only possible when all are forced into poverty.

Economic Marxism would have us all crammed into tiny apartments of poorly constructed and mismanaged high-rise housing projects. They call it economic justice.

Allowing free markets empowered by freedom of association to release the intellectually fittest to advance unencumbered by government-imposed social restrictions results in the advancement of all members of a society, though the disparity will remain and may even become more pronounced.

The objective of economic Marxism is parity. The objective of free markets is prosperity

KC School will continue to suck.

  22. 10:15 Old and young white people were the ones forced to give $2 billion to that abject failure that everyone knew would be a failure and will continue to be so. What about Sly? Could he find a public school? His kids didn't go to them either. You could put Nelson Mandela, Winston Churchill, and Warren Buffet in there and it wouldn't make a damn bit of difference. Most of the parents (who are drop-outs themselves) don't care so they have kids that don't care. Simple as that. There has to be an incalculable attitude shift among the parents and students of the schools to improve them. The best teacher in the world can't get through to 80% of these kids. After all they are going to be a NBA player despite the fact they are 5'6", can't jump, and can't shoot. Or a rapper despite the fact they can't write and have no talent.

  23. In almost all the comments on this thread, the real failure of KCPS comes through loud and clear.
It's NEVER about educating the kids.
It's ALWAYS about which adults are in charge and are getting the money.
    Generations lost.

  25. 6:55, this is 10:15. I agree with your position. But, I do not agree that the solution is to allow a bunch of rich white men to make a deal with more rich white men to come in and do experiments on children. I know this blog is full of racists, and I know that there will be any number of comments about that, but the racists who write on this blog just prove the point that there are idiots in every race, creed and color. I find them below contemptible, but that is just me. I do not think it is okay for a person who works for all the children in this state to make a backroom deal with an out of state company who has a pre-ordained plan on what to do. The plan will be to dissolve the district and make each school a charter school, with a principal who runs a school with teachers who are not educated as teachers. They will run the school as their own little kingdom. They will set the budget and they will spend the money. Take a look at how successful this has been in K.C. already. Very few charter schools are doing as well as KCPS. Those that do, other than Academie Lafayette, are spending two times the amount on their children because of the Kauffman and Hall money. Turning over that kind of money to 35 different principals is a disaster waiting to happen. But, if it happens it happens. However, no matter what happens, Chris Nicastro and the "white massa" Herschend both must leave as they have made absolutely shameful statements to the public. They are not fit to be public servants. Unless they are public servants in a segregated country.
