CONGRESSMAN CLEAVER FASTS IN SUPPORT OF IMMIGRATION REFORM
This week, I made a decision to fast for one day in solidarity with those in Washington, DC fasting for immigration reform.
My voluntary fast represents the urgency, the passion and sacrifice of a community of all creeds, race, gender, affiliation and status, striving for the attainment of immigration reform. I fast, pray and act until the bonds of families are no longer divided, until a pathway to citizenship is a fate for 11 million deserving immigrants and their families, until immigration reform is no longer a notion, but a reality.
I fasted because the suffering of immigrants and in our communities has moved me to act. I fasted in support of the many, many immigrants who have lost loved ones due to our broken immigration system. And I extend my unwavering support to the fasters around the nation who are bravely highlighting the moral crisis we face with this broken immigration system.
This year, we have come the closest ever to achieving real immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship. In June, the U.S. Senate passed a comprehensive, bipartisan immigration bill (S.744). Now, the House of Representatives has a chance to complete the dream for 11 million aspiring Americans by addressing the moral crisis that is our broken immigration system.
Unfortunately, we are still waiting to vote on the one issue that holds strong bipartisan support and is backed by a breadth of communities and groups across the country.
Every day the House leadership stalls on a vote for immigration reform, families and communities suffer the impact of deportations, deaths on the border, exploitation at work and the fear of living in the shadows with no path to citizenship.

ReplyDeleteThe problem, whether we are talking about immigration reform, urban violence, native rights, is that most whites feel that whites are superior to non-whites. This fantasy of ours translates into violence & oppression against non-whites, since in the eyes of most whites, these people are not very important, or even more pathetically, not even humans.
ReplyDeleteIts similar to American Exceptional-ism, the fantasy that America is the greatest country in the world. White Americans are dismissive of any notion that there shouldn't have been an America. This land was already inhabited (& don't tell me the natives came from Siberia, because when they came here they didn't commit genocide against the first inhabitants, because they were here first.)
White people are NOT superior. American is NOT superior. Christianity is NOT superior. Until these fantasies are dealt with we cannot have an intelligent discussion about immigration, because we are starting from an irrational premise. Because they are, by definition, part native they should be accepted here without question. A Mexican-American has more of a fundamental right to be here, than an English-American.

Here is fact that many in the media don't tell you about illegal immigration especially ones from Mexico.
Not only can they not read or write in English,…they can't read or write in Spanish. Most are largely illiterate. Also in many Northern Mexico communities women are just there to be baby factories. In fact it's common for girls 13-years-old to start families there.
Plus their very racist. In LA, Phoenix, Las Vegas, San Diego, Houston, ext blacks don't go to because they know there will be harassed or worst by the Mexicans there.
After WW2 and before the late '60s we took in the best out there. We took in scientist, doctors, engineers. Now we just take in any third world loser who can't make it in their own country.
When they come here and find out they don't have the skills and the drive to make it in America, they either go straight to a life of crime or a life of welfare.
STOP IMMIGRATION NOW. SAVE AMERICA.

ReplyDeleteHow will immigration reform help Black America? In the long run amnesty will not impact whites or even poor whites that much but will hurt lower income Blacks. The new legal Mexican immigrants will force more poor Blacks out of the job market and on to public assistance. Black dependency on the welfare state will increase to the point where the inner cities of America will become like the Indian reservations without casinos. Look at the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and then imagine it surrounded by a city and that is the future for poor Blacks in America after amnesty.
It is strange how many Mexicans refer to people of European descent as white people when in reality, many Mexicans consider themselves white when asked for a racial identity. Intermarriage between Mexicans and Anglos is becoming common and will increase but intermarriage between Mexicans and Blacks is very rare. Mexicans are converting to Protestantism in large numbers joining churches like the Mormon and the Pentecostals and this makes them poor candidates for the welfare state. You can read daily in the newspapers reports of friction between Mexicans and Blacks in Los Angles on the streets, in the schools and in prison and I have seen this conflict here in the Midwest. It is possible that we could see in the future that intermarriage between whites, Hispanics and Asians increase to degree that a supermajority is created with blacks still being a minority.
It goes Asians, Whites, Mexicans and then Blacks in order of intelligence. Curiously, the order is reversed in both hoops prowess and dong size.
