And here's how Kansas City plans to waste money on transit in the New Year . . .
READ THIS ARTSY KANSAS CITY RFQ LOOKING TO SPRUCE UP DOWNTOWN TOY TRAIN STOPS!!!
As with any KCMO art project . . .
- We wonder if the work will actually be awarded to a local.
- Hopefully some of it will be in horrible taste.
- Now is a good time for local artists to be nice to former Mayoral contender Mike Burke.

City seeks art for streetcar project
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Municipal Art Commission invites professional artists or artist-led teams to develop innovative, original art to be integrated into the City's Downtown Streetcar Starter Project. The deadline for submittals is 4 p.m. Jan. 27, 2014 and the competition is open to all professional artists living in the United States.
The four-mile roundtrip streetcar route will become operational in late 2015, linking the River Market area near the Missouri River to the renowned Crown Center/Union Station area. The north-south route will run largely on Main Street and also will serve the Central Business District, the Crossroads Arts District and the Kansas City Power & Light District. There will be 16 stops, spaced roughly every two blocks.
While the commission will consider all proposals, the most likely ideas will focus on artwork integrated into the infrastructure on selected stops, where the art will serve as enhancements and possibly as identity markers related to neighborhoods along the way.
Artists will coordinate work with City staff, streetcar representatives and the design team. The estimated budget is $100,000, which will be divided among the selected stops.
Submissions should include:
- A letter of interest (two pages or less)
- A professional resume/CV (three pages or less)
- An annotated image list of past works
- A CD-ROM with up to 15 clearly-labeled images of related past work in JPEG format
- Up to three pieces of printed materials such as articles, catalogues, etc.
- Three references with current contact information
To view the full details for submissions, visit www.kcmo.org/art and click "KC Streetcar Public Art RFQ" or access the RFQ directly at http://www.kcmo.org/idc/groups/generalservice/documents/generalservices/streetcar_publicart_rfq.pdf.

KC Transit Money slogan EZ come EZ go.
ReplyDeleteStand provision of public projects in KC. You can hate the project, but you can recognize that this a simple project component. Or, you can pull at every loose thread until your exhaust us all with your sniveling.
ReplyDeleteShut up McGurk.
ReplyDeleteHey, just because it's the mayor's lackey doesn't mean that he doesn't have a point. Public art is the least objectionable aspect of this project. My only concern is that I hope artists are free to express how this project really subverting democracy and set us back.
ReplyDeleteKnowing where the gas lines run is a matter of perspective.
ReplyDeleteexcuse me... Shut The Fuck Up McGurk.
ReplyDeleteThat's going to be a TEDIOUS 4 mile ride if the train stops every two blocks. While you're busy messing this up, THINK! what MORE can you do to encourage folks to stay in their cars.
ReplyDeleteActually, I be 314, and I am not McGurk. Can't stand the guy either, but the point remains; even a project you don't like can have elements that are routine contract provisions.
ReplyDeleteYour argument against the streetcar is noted and I share the concerns. However, that does not mean every f-in element of the project bears argument. People that effectively advocate for a position are aware that they can just waer down those that even agree with them.
Tony is getting there. At least with me.
Gives you a chance to hop off and check out all the new business growth around the line! Like the brick-and-mortar socks101!
ReplyDeleteI is gonna suck all da cocks up and down dis heah new streetcar line.
ReplyDeleteHave they exceeded the $102m budget yet?
ReplyDeleteTony, if Emily Elmore does something for this do you think you could get a better shot of her sweet little ass this time???? PLEASE!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe streetcar will save CK tony just you watch

ReplyDeleteMebbe El Bryan will toss his old timey stovepipe hat into the ring...
ReplyDeleteThat list of requirements doesnt mention TALENT.
Maybe Stretch can weld together a couple girders some weekend.
ReplyDeleteI'm bold enough to take partial credit for this. I suggested it on MindMixer back in March, and it was one of the more popular ideas; although I suggested it should be done city wide as a method of increasing bus ridership.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I mentioned it to Matt Staub back in February, and for all of our disagreements, he claimed to like this as well. Again, I was an advocate of more $ for art, less for boutique transit.
ReplyDeleteOhhhh ART, Damn I thought story was about a 100k Fart. This some damn fine scotch I is having on a shitty weather day.
