Kansas City Activist Alonzo Washington 2013 Message: Speaking Up Must Be The Priority

TKC Note: Here is a very brave and EPIC statement from Kansas City anti-crime activist Alonzo Washington regarding the state of local violence his plans to release his "Binder Full of Killers" info to the public and the media.

Crime solving activist, Alonzo Washington says balloon releases & vigils send the wrong message to the Black community about crime. In response, he will release the names of suspected killers that his tips program has generated to prove a point.


Once again a pointless ritual will take place that has no hope of impacting crime in the most dangerous part of the Greater Kansas City area. A city funded crime organization will take some balloons & throw them in the air to represent the people being murdered in KCMO. Each year the same group of mostly the same people come to this event that results in a city with over 100 murders yearly. This year there has been 105 murders to date. It is clear no one is listening or paying attention to this lame event beyond the press that decides to cover it over & over again.

Prayer Vigils & other so-called crime fighting rituals are vastly over rated and have failed the community. Many African American's think that attending these events make some type of a difference when it doesn't. Although, prayer vigils take place all the time over half of the murders in KCMO each year are never solved. Why does the city continue to fund organizations that are ineffective in addressing crime in the inner-city? The proof of this ineffectiveness is how the Ad Hoc Group Against Crime was not able to create a movement around Kansas City, Missouri's youngest homicide victim (3 year old Damiah L. White). If you asked the average person in Kansas City who is Damiah White they would say: "Who"?

Activist Alonzo Washington was able to take the Precious Doe/Erica Green murder case with no city funding to a national level & eventually solve the case. Everyone in the city knew her name due to Alonzo Washington's advocacy & focus on speaking up. That's what the message to the Black Community should be! More Black people must give tips & testify in court to captured killers. Attending a balloon release or vigil won't cut it. Earlier this year Alonzo Washington met with Mayor Sly James & presented him with a binder full of killers. Tips on suspected killers who's names he hears all of the time in the community but people won't testify against or give the police tips about them. Speaking up at all cost must be the priority or killers will continue to rule the inner-city.
Alonzo Washington challenges all of the local media to send this alternative message rather than the same old failed one that never succeeds in catching killers. The following is a list of suspected killers that Alonzo Washington's tips program has generated. Even if no members of the press act on this truthful press release all of you know releasing balloons into the sky won't help capture a killer. The following is the list of suspected killers. Also there is a letter from a mother of one of these homicide victims that wants people to speak up in court & not at vigils.
