Of course any movie with Mr. T is an instant classic but a scene from Rocky III seems to speak directly to the myth of Kansas City Chiefs success that was busted by Peyton Manning and the Broncos last night . . .

The Toy Train
Almost nobody but contractors, consultants and politicos believes the toy train will spark growth for Kansas City neighborhoods. And very much like the Kansas City Chiefs . . . Despicable, rigged and setup elections are the only way the Toy Train stays winning.
The P&L District
Remember the hype about the Downtown Renaissance? This year the P&L District lost $14 Million and is no longer the hope to rejuvenate the city's economy.
Missouri GOP Domination
Not too long ago the GOP took control of Missouri politics and turned the state into an irrelevant punchline rather than a bellwether for the national political scene. The uneducated and unwashed masses of Missouri rural areas lost their union jobs, grew bitter and decided to do whatever talk radio commanded. Since that point poverty, joblessness and cuts to education have followed while the only thing the Republicans have managed to change (for the worse) is the fact that strippers can't go bottomless any longer. Sniffle.
Kansas City Political Girl Power
Diversity in elected office is a fine goal . . . Sadly, the current clique of Kansas City political ladies have turned local politics into a social club with very few qualified public servants. The idea of "empowerment" for local lady politicos nowadays is mostly just another hobby for a gaggle of broads who like to drink @ Cafe Trio.
Mayor Sly James
Just about everybody agrees that Mike Burke was too nice to the Mayor during the election. Still, Mayor Sly will likely win a second term NOT because people are satisfied with his performance but only because there won't be a formidable challenger.
Again, just like the Chiefs . . . These people, places and ideas haven't really faced a challenger and when/if they do . . . Kansas City might once again witness a tragic beating in much the same way Peyton Manning embarrassed this town's football fans last night. Natch.

ReplyDeleteDon't forget that the "streetcar authority" folks, who have no real responsiblity for anything, decided right up front that the streetcar will be FREE.
