At the sale in the heart of Westport an old school political denizen was visably upset as the crowd picked through the stuff.
"Isn't this the saddest thing ever?" He asked.
And here's the lesson for Kansas City political denizens...
Take a good look at the belongings of Doc Wheeler up for sale. Mayor wheeler was more beloved and more influential than any current Kansas City politico but today his personal items are here for sale as he moves to the poor house to live out the rest of his days.
It wasn't a lack of education or power or friends that determined the fate of Doc Wheeler. It's time that is the enemy of us all. Time is merciless and doesn't respect much of anything that mere mortals accomplish.
So, it wasn't a picnic but life goes on . . .
In fairness, Kathe Kaul did a nice job and tried to keep the event as classy as possible. Here she is making her pitch to the TV news and extolling the virtues of estate sales for the living.

Nobody seems to find it remarkable that Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler have been bankrupted by medical costs.

But then, in most countries, every doctor and health insurance executive doesn't expect to be driving a Benz or a Porsche by the time he's been out of school a few years.

Fuck Wheeler, he fucked the fire dept and as a result the damn city almost burned down. If he had piss poor retirement plans it just might prove he had piss poor planning all along.

ReplyDeleteBarring some sort of evidence of dementia and predators preying on him and cleaning him out, there are far more tragedies in this world for me to worry about how a man with degrees in both medicine and law, and with successful careers as both a physician and a politician could plan so poorly as to having to sell off his earthly belongings in his advanced age.
ReplyDeleteI agree that with the fact that the guy was a doctor AND a lawyer AND the fucking Mayor, there is no earthly reason for his financial condition being as bad as it is. Hell, look at Crosby Kemper. He may be on his last legs but they're HIS last legs and there no auction for his support. No, not much pity here.
