There is lots of talk about college credit being PART the reason for the departure of former media dude for Mayor Sly and Congressman Cleaver (and it is . . . Check below) . . . This kind of snafu happens all the time @ City Hall . . . However . . . Danny is a very talented media dude so I'm certain there's a really nice reason listed on his exit letter like he's going to discover a cure for cancer or whatever. Reality is DANNY IS A REALLY NICE AND SMART GUY AND ANY MEDIA ORG WOULD BE FORTUNATE TO HAVE HIM!!!
This really is the City's loss. The departure of somebody really good over a snafu regarding academic credentials is just unacceptable in this era when a high priced college education has been revealed to be mostly a scam. But I digress . . .

TKC thinks that Mayor Sly needs to step in for his old communications dude or maybe Councilman John Sharp might want to say something considering that he lobbied for considering felons for City Hall work but a guy exaggerates a bit about his college and now he's finding other work . . . THAT is how screwed up City Hall is right now . . .

Unfortunately, Danny Rotert has recently learned that his final semester of a combined Bachelor’s/Master’s program was not credited toward his degree and thus he is short eight hours of obtaining a higher education degree. After fifteen years, this was a shock to Danny and to the City. However, the position of city communications director requires a higher education degree- without exception.
I sincerely appreciate Danny’s service to the City and know we are better able to serve the resident of Kansas City through the enhanced communications’ efforts under his leadership.

He wasn't just a little curious why we wasn't invited to graduaton or didn't receive his diploma in the mail? Sounds to me like someone hoped this would go unnoticated and lo and behold it did not.

ReplyDeleteFYI - Rotert only had the job since April 2013, so he hadn't "proven" anything. He worked for Mayor James before that and only since May 2011, when he left Cleaver's office. Prior to working for Cleaver, he worked for MARC in a fairly lower level position. The 15-year comment was likely in reference to when he left college. Too bad he forgot to graduate before putting that on his resume. Hate to see what types of mistakes someone would make on the job when they can't even read their own transcripts or realize they don't have a diploma.
