On the way home from my 19th cup of gas station coffee today I noticed the tragic conclusion to a Kansas City tradition in this digital era.
TAKE A LOOK AT THE WESTPORT BLOCKBUSTER CLEARED AND CLEANED OUT TONIGHT!!!
At one time this place was jam packed with all of the cool people and its movie stock rivaled indie places like SRO video which it helped to run out of biz.
Tonight, a couple of working class white people were putting the final touches on cleaning out the place . . . Look closely, they did a really good job.

Long, long ago my parents didn't just rent movies but rented one of those big, old school video cassette players from this place for my 10th B-Day Party where I screened Back To The Future for my snot-nosed rug rat friends . . . And that was just a couple of years ago (kidding).
Anyhoo . . .

This is a look at technology in action in Kansas City. Merciless. Ever-changing and shifting the game so quickly that it leaves only empty shells behind.
More for the morning update . . . Now I'm gonna see if Eraserhead is streaming anywhere for free online.
Really said.
ReplyDeleteBest cheap date in Midtown Kansas City.
An example of the destructive creationism of capitalism. Sadly, you don't get what you want, only what this seemingly unstoppable force of nature wants you to have. After all its not about meeting anyone's needs. Its about the stock market. The stock market is doing well right now, so sorry suckers, your needs & wants are irrelevant.
ReplyDeleteRemember when Blockbuster was putting other people out of business? It goes both ways.
ReplyDeleteThis chakotay will shed a tear. The end of an era for sure. At least Tony still gets his Skin-a-max subscription from his mom's basement.
ReplyDeleteBlockbuster is going the way of what it did to family owned businesses.
ReplyDeletePlus, their outrageous late fees and high rental costs hurt them.
They're fucking re-wind fee's on their DVD's were way out of line from Netflix's.
ReplyDeleteLADIES AND GENTLEMAN: THE REASON WHY THIS VISUAL GRABS YOUR ATTENTION IS BECAUSE IT'S A SUBLIMINAL MESSAGE FROM THE FUTURE.
ReplyDeleteBLOCKBUSTER TODAY, REPRESENTS THE KANSAS CITY STAR IN THE FUTURE! AND WHAT DO THEY BOTH HAVE IN COMMON? TKC DOCUMENTING THEIR DEMISE AS BUSINESSES WHICH GREW COMPLACENT AND TOO SLOW TO INNOVATE.
Nice post to wrap up the evening! I enjoy the references to your personal experiences, as it serves to endear you to the reader.
Viva la blogger!
Oh.
ReplyDeleteNetflix wins again!
ReplyDeleteMore middle finger Tony!
ReplyDeletefuck 'em ..... & feed ' em fish.
ReplyDeletefuck off Byron.
ReplyDeleteI remember the non-chain video stores before Blockbuster. The ones with the little room in the back for the porn.
ReplyDeleteTimes change and Blockbuster never had the movie you really wanted anyway.
and nothing of value was lost
ReplyDeleteInvest in coal the next 20 years to keep all the technology and gadgets running.
ReplyDeleteTrust me it pays well.
A nation of fry-cooks is the next wave.
ReplyDeleteProbably end up being a tattoo joint. Or a family dollar store.
