This year the most important Kansas City movie production chronicled the ongoing downward spiral of Kansas City Public Schools along with the litany of hope for change that never quite works out.

KANSAS CITY MOVIEMAKERS DOCUMENTING THE LOCAL PUBLIC EDUCATION HOT MESS ARE NOW MAKING THEIR PITCH TO AUDIENCES!!!
As always, TKC supports the Kansas City cinema community and while I've only seen a few minutes of the movie, it was certainly a powerful testament to the complexities of making public education work in Kansas City . . .
TKC TRUE STORY: I was really going to watch this thing with a lovely local white lady and we got together for one of the KCPT showings. Turns out the tale was so emotionally charged that the white lady hit the pause button and inquired about my unlikely educational achievements (pre-med, 1st Latino perfect score on the LSAT in KCMO, pre-biz and college guest lecturer too. Natch.) . . . I revealed to her how much my parents had sacrificed to keep my precious behind out of the KCPS and, despite a myriad of (mostly self-inflicted) challenges, suburbanite Catholic eduction sharpened the mind your favorite blogger while providing nearly unmatched fluency in the language of the oppressor.
From that point a make-out session ensued and then TKC put on a private tutorial in AWESOME as the story of Kansas City's disadvantaged was cast into nearly permanent digital pause. Damn you TiVo!!! Accordingly, I wasn't able to get around to watching this sucker because chubby white women are the cause of and solution to all of life's problems.
But I digress . . .
We like the strategy of the moviemakers pitching their work . . . We Are Superman is now availible on DVD and Blu-Ray
Also . . . The important Kansas City movie is also available via digital download.

LOCAL FILM CHRONICLES TROOST DIVIDE AND REVITALIZATION
Kansas City filmmakers examine urban dis-investment; showcase inner-city community building organizations
Kansas City, MO – “Kansas City has suffered from hyper-segregation for over 60 years and it cannot continue.” That's the message of We Are Superman: The Transformation of 31st and Troost, a local documentary which includes interviews with Mayor Sly James, Anita Maltbia of the Green Impact Zone, and Carol Grimaldi of Brush Creek Community Partners.
Kevin Bryce, the film's director, became drawn to the story of Troost Avenue while studying Film and Media Arts at UMKC. He felt that Troost was over stigmatized and decided to investigate.
Troost Avenue, which lies in the heart of KC, draws a geographic dividing line between black and white, rich and poor. But a growing movement is uniting to transform Troost from a dividing line into a gathering place. On the corner of 31st and Troost, a community of people are battling against prejudicial legislation, exploitative corporations, and a stereotype that has stigmatized the urban core since the suburban revolution.
The film is now available on Blu-Ray, DVD, and Vimeo-on-Demand. We Are Superman:
The Transformation of 31st and Troost premiered in April of 2012 to an audience of 400 at the Nelson Atkins Museum. The film has since had a sold-out screening at the now- closed Screenland Crossroads in December, head-lined the 2013 Kansas City Film Fest (with an introduction by Mayor James himself), played at the 2013 Middle of the Map Fest, and has aired four times on Kansas City Public Television.

Tony's unceasing, slathering conupiscient commitment to the pursuit of "white women" is another victory for white American Exceptionalism.
ReplyDeleteAs the culture of achievement is replaced by the culture of complaint and entitlement, a nod from a guidon in the new demographic reveling in etoliated pulchritude is all that is left to the dying empire.
31st and Troost is the high water mark for the new demographic and is sustainable only until the inevitable arrival of the Hieronymus Bosch painting we will all be living in soon.
Sounds like Craig wrote this revue to me and Tony slapped his name on it. As for you Chuck, you need to stop wiping your ass with the dictionary. Big and obscure words impress nobody.
ReplyDeleteSee 9:03 run. See 9:03 jump. See 9:03 graduate from the KC School District.
ReplyDeleteIf tony got a perfect lsat score Ill eat my sombrero.
ReplyDeleteTony, who is the Gatekeeper of the statistics for 1st Latino perfect score on the LSAT in KCMO? Surely they know who the second is too?

eschewing patriarchy and nationalism might be bad for chuck, but the kalahari bushmen only work 15hrs a week. if their life sucked, don't you think they would have figured around to work more?
tony lets talk about getting some of your short stories published. gripping stuff.
What i and others got from the movie (other than wear a clean shirt and get a haircut) is privitization will save the urban core.. someday
ReplyDeleteThey saved my life buying me a suit and teaching me to use my indoor voice
ReplyDeleteCivilization collapsing worries old fat white guys who fear the bears are getting near
ReplyDeleteWaiting for a miracle to come
ReplyDeleteRevitalization of Troost? How many times have we heard that? Sorry, I am not impressed. I quit listening the sixth time somebody cam up with it.
ReplyDeleteBut, we still don't know if Tony got laid in his mom's basement. Now Glazer never gets laid he just writes about it. He has to use a strap on (his ex-wife admits this story is true) hence why he never has the same chick twice unless they are coke heads.
