TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! FRIENDS OF KCI ACTIVIST DAN COFFEY THROWN OUT OF FIRST PUBLIC NEW AIRPORT MEETING!!!

So much for a Kansas City "adult discussion" on plans for a new single-terminal airport . . .

Here's the 1st Person report from witnesses.

FRIENDS OF KCI ACTIVIST DAN COFFEY WAS NOT ALLOWED TO RETURN TO A "PUBLIC MEETING" FOR THE NEW KCI SINGLE-TERMINAL AIRPORT PROPOSAL BY SECURITY AFTER ANSWERING MEDIA QUESTIONS!!!

While was was barred from entrance the chairman of the new airport committee was going to great lengths on how the meetings were going to be open to the public and transparent.

KC INSIDERS at the scene reveal that TV news has it on tape so we should see the aftermath soon enough.

Question:

MAYOR SLY? IS THIS THE KIND OF "ADULT DISCUSSION" THAT KANSAS CITY MUST SUBMIT TO ON THE NEW AIRPORT UNDER YOUR REGIME???

The airport committee was intended to provide a forum for people to discuss ideas and share information regarding the BILLION DOLLAR proposal . . . Now it seems that Mayor Sly is shutting down the conversation and avoiding even the hint of dissent.

NOW . . .

CHECK THIS EXCLUSIVE STATEMENT FROM DAN COFFEY REGARDING THE INCIDENT!!!

"Tony, Friends of KCI went to Union Station this morning for the Mayor's Airport Council's first meeting. We were working our petition in front of the station when asked to leave by security. This is not the first public place we have been asked to vacate. We were interviewed by all the local TV stations and some radio, then tried to go to the meeting. We were thrown out of the meeting by Union Station Security. They had six police officers with them. We asked who wanted us to leave, since we were just trying to go to a public meeting, and the reply was "the client". We then asked several times who "the client" was and they refused to identify him or her. The police removed us at the request of the security people. However we were allowed to work the petition outside where we started. I would like to know who "the client" is and if Union Station isn't public property? Supported with tax dollars."

  1. Maybe because he is crazy

  2. Sly sold us out.

  3. So he left a meeting already in progress, and wasn't allowed back into a meeting in progress. Sounds reasonable to me. If I go to a Chiefs game, leave the stadium to go to my car, and am refused re-entry, was I "kicked out" of the stadium? Uh, no. People who walk in and out of a meeting to do a press conference while the meeting is still going on are being rude.

  4. Dan's not crazy. He's a polite, congenial older guy. And he didn't leave and reenter. He was outside, came in when it started, and was kicked out. The City government is full of thugs, and they're desperate for the people not to have a say on this - because they know they'll lose.

  5. A look a these comments and no wonder City officials have no respect for you. You don't even respect yourselves.

The law is called open meetings/records you fools.

  7. Section 610.011 of the Sunshine Law: “It is the public policy of this state that meetings, records, votes, actions, and deliberations of public governmental bodies be open to the public unless otherwise provided by law. Sections 610.010 to 610.200 shall be liberally construed and their exceptions strictly construed to promote this public policy.”

The law sets out the specific instances when a meeting, record or vote may be closed, while stressing these exceptions are to be strictly interpreted to promote the public policy of openness.

Public meetings, including meetings conducted by telephone, Internet or other electronic means, are to be held at reasonably convenient times and must be accessible to the public. Meetings should be held in facilities that are large enough to accommodate anticipated attendance by the public and accessible to persons with disabilities.

    from Attorney General's Office

There are no provisions in Sections 610.010 to 610.200 to bar from the proceedings any citizen who is not disruptive. I look forward to a full account of this incident.
I do not support a complete KCI teardown and rebuild. The current fiscal state of the airline industry clearly shows such a massive undertaking as futile. The industry is pulling back it's flights from mid-market airports. Building a new structure will not change that business plan.

  8. Another win for the Russ Johnson School of Public Accountability.

  9. Disguesting! Only hope it that the State will take over city government in KCMO.

  10. Get a lawyer and sue them under the Sunshine Law. There are penalties for that sort of shit, plus provisions for attorney fees. That will make the City think again about their actions.

  11. Wow, all these people that want to remain a middle of the road place. Build a better airport you dorks.

  12. With or without a landing strip, KC will always be a FLYOVER ZONE.

  13. Laws don't apply to the political class. Never has, never will. They can do pretty much as they please. If one has enough money and is willing to take a case far enough you might win. But remember the pols are fighting with unlimited funds.

  14. Welcome to Kansas City. Pay your taxes and STFU. Don't worry about how your money is spent.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Just wait. By the end of this Sly and Russ Johnson will run on a single ticket.

  16. Why doesn't JoCo build a new airport?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Great idea with new airport being in JoCo. And while we are at it let's have them build some sports stadiums. Tired of paying taxes to support billionaire owners.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Can we sell JoCo Liberty Memorial and Union Station brick by brick?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Fucking people. Want to survive trading home schooling for home made clothes and home made pies. The economy is a little more complex than that. Sometimes you have to invest to keep up.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Let's "invest" in an entertainment district. Oh, I forget, we made that investment and its nothing but a liability.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Depending on how the media plays it this could be a turning point for the The "King" James administration. The public spends $200 M to rebuild that building and a respected former City Councilman is removed because he disagrees with a possible future city policy. Arrogance just like what's coming out of Washington.

  22. We should all thank Dan for having the courage to stand up for what is right.

  23. Ah, the Obama transparency method. Also known as the Obama open-door policy. Also known as the Obama "we're all going to sit down together at the table and work things out". Which also means Dan's about to be investigated and audited. Sorry Dan.

  24. This cow town doesn't deserve a better airport. Also if KC residents weren't so obese, perhaps they could walk a yard or two more to the gate.

    ReplyDelete
  25. The airport is perfectly fine for this shithole cowtown.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Tony, thank you for reporting on this! This situation speaks very poorly of our city leaders. They should be ashamed at how they've abused their power and forced a person with an apposing view to leave a public meeting. A person, it needs to be emphasized, who not being disruptive in any way!

Is this wonderful new airport idea so weak that it can't stand even the slightest scrutiny? In the end, this will only help the cause to stop our "public servants" from building an airport the citizens don't want. In his effort to squelch the issue, the Mayor has only thrown gasoline on it.

    Way to go, Dan!

  27. I would like to know why Johnson County is allowed input on a a airport change that will be paid for by the citizens of Kansas City, Mo? Why was a forum held in that county?
