TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! DEAD TREE CONSOLIDATION: KANSAS CITY STAR MAGAZINE FOLDING INTO INK RAG!!!

This afternoon we have an important tidbit that should send a chill up the spine of all of the Dead Tree Media hacks who hate but constantly read TKC bloggy goodness.

To wit . . .

THE VERY BEST TKC TIPSTERS TELL US THAT THIS SUMMER THE KANSAS CITY STAR MAGAZINE WILL FOLD INTO THE INK TABLOID RAG!!!

Translation . . . Sunday toilet reading in Kansas City will become far less convenient. For some reason, I didn't mind taking a Star Magazine to the can because it was sheathed by all of the coupons and advertorial weekend fluff. However, INK is just laying out there on the street pretending to be the Pitch with 2nd run presser photos.

More than just news of this . . . We have a bit of perspective:

"Yes, they're folding the Kansas City Star Magazine. Kind of sad really because they offer in-depth features of local issues and have become something of a showcase for long form writing talent at the newspaper. This might better serve Ink - Still light on content. Or some of the better features could get cut altogether."

Of course we expect a bunch of venom from Dead Tree Media Newsies who don't have any other skills and don't look forward to slugging it out in the blog world. By the way, I'm still offering blogging classes for the low, low price of $499.95. $800 for Helling.

So, watch THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING STAR consolidate their products into a smaller and smaller offerings comprised mostly editorial, wire copy and sports held together by adverts. What this really means is that there are fewer options for Dead Tree Media Newsies as their signature medium becomes obsolete.

DEVELOPING . . .

Comments

  1. KC Star Mag had a bunch of good points. Will be missed.

  2. KC Star? Never heard of it.

  3. might be right about the shut down but wrong again about the interpretation.

this means INK is getting bigger and better.

they're coming after the Pitch and talking all of the advertisers. it's a tough game tkc and that is where u can't measure up.

  4. So how will the twenty-something female demographic of INK react when there's actually decent content to read besides where to drink this weekend?

  5. I would like to know what John Altevogt thinks about this.

    Right now.

    In detail.

  6. I just don't get their business concept here. There are still a lot of us dinosaurs out here who get a Sunday paper delivered to their driveway. So why does the Star risk pissing me off and losing me for good by taking away one of their best remaining sections? It's completely counter intuitive. Duh

  7. That ain't gonna save them.

  8. The business concept you don't get is that you aren't their customer. The advertisers are. The fact that you are a dinosaur means you aren't in the demographic.

I'm sure Landsberg won't be able to resist taking some kind of parting shot.

  9. Long time coming. INK is a joke among its target demo anyway, whereas Star Magazine has lots of 60+ readers.

  12. Lol. This is a good move by The Star and you can even see TKC getting jealous.

  13. Bad move. Star, you are digging your own grave faster than even Tony could hope.

Just keep that lousy "Everday People" as FAR AWAY from me as POSSIBLE!

  15. Cool.

The Ink's pages were just re-hashed stories out of the Thursday Preview and the daily FYI's.

ICYMI...The Ink has had twice the page count and circulation for 4+ years over The Pitch.

The Star Mag was only kept alive for so many years by the Ad Supplement crap in the middle of it. I remember when I was a kid that it was twice as big as it is now and had a lot more stuff to read.

  16. Star Mag has been steadily shrinking. If not for the healthcare crap in the middle, the piece would be eight pages.

Ink is stupid and doesn't dive into anything. At least The Pitch does some investigative reporting.
