RAYTOWN RETREAT!!! WHAT KANSAS CITY WALMART PUSH BACK REALLY MEANS!!!

Kansas City box store detractors recently earned a major victory.

NBC Action News: Walmart abandons plan for Raytown store

Now, let's put it in context . . .

THE FIGHT AGAINST WALMART THROUGHOUT KANSAS CITY MIGHT REPRESENT A LOCAL 'CULTURAL AWAKENING' TO THE HIGH COST OF LOW PRICES!!!

Of course neighborhood concerns are first and foremost . . .

- Big discount box stores destroy smaller, local shops.

- Box stores create a glut of traffic that isn't well planned out.

- Aesthetically, box stores just aren't something that people want to see in their community.

But maybe, just maybe there's more too it.

Recognition of neighborhood consequences might be the first step toward realizing the overall implications of box stores funded by cheap labor.

Considering such negative Kansas City reaction to Walmart plans as of late . . . It's not out of line to think that fair wages for female employees, the right to unionize and even far away supply chain concerns might also spark big, discount box store push back.

DEVELOPING . . .

  1. So when Raytown opposes WalMart they're protecting their neighborhood, but when Waldo does the same they're racist??

    WalMart sucks; everywhere.

  2. Great. Now Raytown can have a downtown vacant lot for several more years.

But I do wish people would learn the difference between a Wal-Mart and a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market.

  3. Too bad. It would of been a good area to put that store in. One of the key words from the anti Wal-Mart crowd is that the store would hurt re-development of their downtown.

HA. I bet five years from now that downtown Raytown will still be the dump it is today or more likely...worst.

  4. Maybe Walmart got fed up with all the shit from the Raytown anti-Walmart nutjobs. Do the Same Waldo fruitcakes, and you'll wind up with a falling-down schoolhouse for the duration.

  5. The anti's were raising money for a lawsuit, challenging the Board of Alderman's vote.Maybe Wal Mart just decided to build elsewhere. It is a shame, that lot is going to continue to sit vacant and the downtown is going to continue to decline.

  6. Too bad neighborhood pushback didn't save the stop lights in the inter city. Too bad public works is so arrogant.

  7. yep the city lost 650,000.00 dollars plus all the sales tax and proprty tax money.

no other buisness will come in and offer that kind of money with no tifs and or tax breaks.

brilliant fucking residents of raytown rejoice..

  8. What in the fuck does that have to do with unnecessary and unsafe stoplight.

Stop sign work better, moron. And their cheaper too.

1985 called, it wants it amateur traffic-planning back.
