Here's just a bit of background on a Mexican legend that scares the Hell out of just about every Latino kid at some point:
"La Llorona ("The Weeping Woman") is a widespread legend in Mexico, the US southwest, Puerto Rico, Central and South America. Although several variations exist, the basic story tells of a beautiful woman by the name of Maria killing her children by drowning them, in order to be with the man that she loved. When the man rejects her, she kills herself. Challenged at the gates of heaven as to the whereabouts of her children, she is not permitted to enter the afterlife until she has found them. Maria is forced to wander the Earth for all eternity, searching in vain for her drowned offspring, with her constant weeping giving her the name "La Llorona" . . .

A Kansas mother accused of trying to drown her two young children was placed on suicide watch a day after being charged.
Two young girls are improving as their mother is now on suicide watch after she allegedly tried to drown them.

The galactically dissproportionate stats for minority crime compared to the population is what most reasonable folks are focused on. Priorities.

ReplyDeleteLa Llorona's kids most likely drowned crossing the Rio Grande trying to get to America but unlike their mother they couldn't swim. La Llorona got blamed for pushing them in the water in an attempt to get them across the border. Therefore she was accused of murdering her children. Swept downstream by the river never to be seen again she struggles to find her kids to redeem herself but to no avail.
