Coming Soon: Portfolio Night In Kansas City

The world of Kansas City marketing and advertising is mostly white, middle-class and filled with some of the most horrible people in Kansas City who gave up on any semblance of decency long before they entered this job field - And yes, pitching gimmicks to saturate the local media scene with even more garbage is a job and not a career.

Anyhoo . . . Because of self-aggrandizing TV shows, bar talk and a general lack of insight into the way the world really works . . . There are still more than a few failed college students who want to get into marketing/advertising in Kansas City.

To help fill the local "talent pool" full of fresh young faces for the sexual predilections of account managers and executives from mostly boring companies - Recruiting is also a big part of the advertising game. Early 20-something sweet meat needs to be constantly refreshed for this career field that darkens the souls of those stupid enough to have taken out big loans for a liberal arts degree. To wit . . .

Here's the latest upcoming advertising/marketing event slouching toward this cowtown . . .

PN11 Kansas City: VML

"Portfolio Night is coming to Kansas City, MO for the very first time, thanks to the good folks at VML, and what better place than 'The Show-Me State" to show off your portfolio? But be sure to bring your A-game; if you've been coasting by on mediocrity your whole life, you'll be in for a rude awakening come May 22nd."

More in a bit . . .

  1. Those that can, do. Those that can't, teach. Those that can't teach, go into politics. Everyone else, advertising and marketing. Just make sure that your first campaign that goes viral doesn't have anything to do with as STD.

  4. Hey, aren't we due to sing the praises of Hop Hop?

Hip Hop advertises a really great life style and is the only form of advertising that is acceptable.

O want to buy all the clothes, cars and live that life.

Or, I want to be a Pro Basket Ball player.

That is it for me, one or the other. Fuck that advertising.

  9. Well watching the promo what it did for me was give me the urge to slap that freaking nerd really hard across the face. Is that the intention?

  11. You have to compete with the crap VML produces...so you too can be a 'creative' douche!

  12. VML, filled with the some of the most self-important people in Kansas City. This video reminds me yet again why I can't stand to even be in close proximity of ad agency types.

  13. Holy crud!

I wish I would have seen this earlier so I could comment in a timely manner. It kills me when I see young folk start working at VML. I want to tell them that the VML environment will suck the life out of them and most likely be partnered with a total asshole who will show them "the ropes." Oh, it pains me. VML is a toxic hole in which souls and destroy creativity. Barf-o-rama.
