City Hall Gives "B" Grade For Snow Removal

NBC Action News reports the local self-satisfaction . . . "The city of Kansas City graded itself Wednesday on its response to the last two massive snowstorms. "Overall, I'd give it a 'B,'" said Councilman John Sharp, of south Kansas City. The city's Emergency Operations Manager, Gene Shepherd, also gave the city emergency response a 'B,' but added there is always room for improvement."

Sadly, the room for improvement might be among neighborhoods who are still complaining that plows covered their sidewalks and then the City threatens fines.

Butt heads gave themselves a B hilarious.

I'm sure they did the best they could with what they had.

But they didn't have enough-equipment, training, manpower, or consideration- to get the job done the way it should be done.

So as long as it's not a self-satisfied, rest-on-one's-laurels "B", okay. Now fix the problems, and make sure they don't happen again.

Time for some follow-up, Tony. How many tickets were actually issued to anyone anywhere in the city, let alone to those in all those unnamed "neighborhoods" where a snow plow pushed snow back on a sidewalk?

Or are you too busy trying to find potholes to prove that the streets are crumbling?

I know there are bunch of whiners who would give the city a D. In my opinion, I would give them an A minus. Major streets around me were cleared quickly. I only give them a minus because it took them more than 24 hours to get to our local streets.

KCMO is completely preoccupied with sidewalks. Seen sidewalk ordinance requiring residents pay for sidwalks out in the boonies....and handicapped curbing for no purpose at all. In a time of tight tax dollars, that is ridiculous.

Imagine if Detroit was broken down, fully unemployed, falling apart, boarded up, but all the streets have sidewalks and wheelchair curbs?

Utterly absurd! We need to get rid of those hundred thousand dollar people in government for their stupid thinking putting wheelchair ramps ahead of helping people get jobs to pay their own way! We spend enough money on sidewalks and ramps to buy every wheelchair person their own van!

Sadly, poor children don't have the same political clout as this sacred 'special interest' group.

I doubt they issued any tickets, 7:08.

That's because the enforcement process was a three step process, with tickets being a measure of last resort.

First the public alert that the ordinance would be enforced. Second warnings were issued if someone complained to the City AND if the sidewalks were found to be blocked. The warning letters also gave a 48 hour grace period for the owners to abate the condition and if it was, no ticket was issued. The final step was ticketing.

PV failed big time they get a sloppy huge ass F for snow removal.

The city pointing fingers at the residents about not cleaning their sidewalks while the city owned sidewalks all over town had snow all over them.

Biggest church in PV didn't clean their sidewals either. In fact a lot of the churches in PV didn't clean their sidewalks.

Why don't you do your own follow up, 7:08? Call your Councilmember and find out for yourself, you fucking lazy ass.

B my ass muthafuckah! Snow removal deserves a D for below average. When it comes to snow removal KCMO blows....and it's not snow they're blowing

I'd give the city an "A" considering we had two feet of snow in five days. As for those complaining that the city covered their sidewalks, I like to know where they think the city should have put the snow. I do have a suggestion, but I don't think John Sharp's asshole is that big.

No but Sharps mouth is

That's not to say Sharp's not that big an asshole.

7:52, that's not how it works. In the adult world, the person making the charge is required to provide the proof. It is not up to those calling "bullshit" to prove a negative.

Tony raised the spector of city employees scouring the sidewalks on Monday to issue fines to grannies and other poor souls, especially all those where snow from streets was plowed back onto sidewalks.

7:49 had what really happened down to the letter. First, three days after the last storm, the city announced it would begin enforcing the sidewalk snow removal ordinance on Monday, giving two more weekend days to get it done.

Then on Monday, they issued warning letters on a citizen complaint basis, concentrating on high pedestrian traffic areas, giving the property owner/occupant another two days to get the job done.

You know, if Tony wants his blog to become more than a place where pseudo-anarchists come to bitch about high taxes, then bitch that the city hasn't provided THEM with Cadillac service he might want to follow up on stories he launched to find out if they turned out the way he predicted.

I recall particularly the Sunday after the first storm when I read on this very blog that the city had suspended all trash service, citywide, indefinitely.

As I was reading that, the truck rolled by to pick up my trash.

Now does that mean that all trash was picked up everywhere? No. But it also doesn't mean that, contrary to the claims of certain people, that piles and piles of trash were accumulating all over the city.
