TONIGHT KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS TELL US UMKC IS SWITCHING FROM THE SUMMIT LEAGUE TO THE WESTERN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE!!!
The NCAA move might yield a few more wins . . .
Still the Summit League has a bit more prestige and a few higher end names than the WAC.
Don't expect it to impact their surprisingly loyal fan base. Still, it's a sports move that AWESOME TKC TIPSTERS wanted to put on blast FIRST.

ReplyDeleteThis is good. Good athletic programs bring recognition to a school. The WAC isnt great but its better than the summit league. Go umkc.
ReplyDeleteIf UMKC were going D2, they wouldn't be joining the MIAA. UMKC doesn't play football, and the MIAA insists on that.
ReplyDeleteThey would most likely be joining the Great Lakes Valley Conference with Rockhurst and William Jewell, which is the best D2 basketball conference in the nation.
But they aren't going D2.
As for the WAC being better than the Summit, well, it once was. But the whole conference realignment thing hurt the WAC more than any other conference, especially with defections of many of its big names to the Mountain West and Conference USA.
Right now, the conference for basketball is Denver, Idaho, Louisiana Tech, New Mexico State, San Jose State, Seattle, Texas-Arlington, Texas-San Antonio, Texas State-San Marcos and Utah State.
Joining the WAC this year will be Cal State-Bakersfield, Utah Valley, Grand Canyon, Texas-Pan American, and Chicago State.

ReplyDeleteWhen I think of Missouri, in particular Kansas City, the first thing that comes to mind is a hopping critter from Australia. Yes, I think of Kangaroos. Some people might say it's totally nonsense.
ReplyDeleteI don't. Take the word "glue." It makes me think of potatoes rubbed with frosting.
Now take something like scissors. Dip them in lotion. Put bread crumbs on them. That makes me think of libraries.
So as you can see, having a kangaroo as a mascot for a small college in Kansas City is really pretty easy to understand.
UMKC should join the WAC, the Summit is dead once Oakland and others leave (yes, that is actually happening)... At least the WAC provides better travel destinations and universities that are proven to be progressive.
ReplyDeleteDenver will likely be going BACK to the WAC soon, when it rains it pours... Summit League will be donezo purely because of geography!
