TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! SUNDAY SPECIAL REPORT: CONTROVERSY ERUPTS AFTER "FAIR SHARE" E-MAIL BLAST HITS KANSAS CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT!!!

A recent e-mail blast circulating through the KCPD has created a great deal of controversy.

Now, TKC has long contended that the rank & file KCPD are the most important resource on which this city relies, so we're going to play this one straight and let readers decide.

To wit . . .

CHECK OUT THE "FAIR SHARE" E-MAIL BLAST FROM THE FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICE THAT'S CIRCULATING AMONG THE KCPD AND CREATING NEGATIVE REACTION TO THE HARD SELL STYLE!!!

And so . . .

THANKS TO THE MOST BRILLIANT TKC TIPSTERS WE HAVE A COPY OF THIS LETTER SO THAT KANSAS CITY CAN TAKE A LOOK AT COLLECTIVE BARGAINING TALK AMONG THEIR POLICE FORCE!!! CLICK THIS LINK FOR THE MEMO!!!

Now . . . Here's the money line that's ruffling a few feathers.

"Article 4 Section 2 of the current MOU requires you, as a bargaining unit member, who is not a member of the FOP, to pay your fair share for the FOP's representation of you in the collective bargaining process. We are providing you with a breakdown of the fair share amount for 2012, which you now owe."

Even more detail . . .

"The "Fair Share Breakdown" and the Notice is attached. As the Fair Share Breakdown indicates, the total amount expended by the FOP for activities with the collective bargaining process for 2012 was $93,252.61, and that amount divided by the total number of bargaining unit members (1277) if $73.02, which is the fair share amount you owe for 2012."

More . . .

Click this link and check the 2012 Fair Share breakdown from FOP accountants that lists mostly attorney fee expenses for the recent collective bargaining fight with City Hall.

Furthermore . . .

Here's a link to the appeal procedure for the many rank & file non-members who have voiced a bit of disagreement with this bill.

If the issue of collective bargaining and employee payments even for those who aren't members of this group sounds familiar that's because Missouri "Right-To-Work" (which addresses a similar Union auto-pay challenge) is gaining momentum.

Therefore . . .

This "Service Fee Authorization Form" has a great many KCPD rank & file denizens perplexed.

Now, let's get some perspective from an AWESOME TKC TIPSTER and KANSAS CITY INSIDER regarding reaction to this document.

"I think this is some kind of poorly designed membership drive," a KC Insider said. "They (FOP) need members badly. Lack of members threatens their relevance," The Insider said. "Less members = less power. And I've heard they're struggling to hold on to 50% membership."

And this point TKC cannot verify FOP membership rates but it's worth noting that these memos reveal the "Fair Share" fee will be waived by joining Kansas City's FOP.

And now we leave this important news topic to THE TKC BLOG COMMUNITY in order to decide if this "Fair Share" hard sell is fair game or foul play that might require further investigation.

DEVELOPING . . .

  13. I would just ask that if Kansas City Department members are as frustrated with this as they say they are and do not want to go under union control, make sure you complete the appeal process. It is time that unions quit weakening businesses (ie Hostess) and start moving forward. I don't know if any body noticed, and KC didn't say it, but it stated in there that the officers could face discipline and possible termination. Have to love the unions that want to help you out while stabbing you in the back.

  14. You crybabies get back to work. Struggling to hold on to 50%? That's a joke. We are way above that threshold and have continued to grow our membership over the past several months. The freeloaders now have to contribute a little, which is a better alternative than getting blackballed for the next 30 years. If you crybabies think you can influence the next FOP leadership election, bring it on. My guess is your simply continue to cower in the corner wishing you had the balls to speak up in a meeting.

  17. Union Mentality Is Much Like Retardation2/17/13, 11:17 AM

Union mentality is rated on a scale somewhere between snail and ape.
In the case of public employee unions the snail side of the scale is well-occupied.
Even though the police in large cities tend to look quite a bit like apes, they still rate near snail in their intellect.

    ReplyDelete
  18. The non-union KCPD (the smart, self-respecting members) are being threatened with termination (like the union can terminate a state employee). Great way to win members.

FOP seems to not know what they're doing. Hopefully MO will become a Right to Work state soon.

    ReplyDelete
  19. 11:03, that 50% threshold is wishful thinking on your part. Is that why you sent out the emails to five people at a time, so the non-members wouldn't know how many of them there actually are? Is that why you won't tell anyone how many are actually FOP members? Sounds like the FOP are the crybabies here.

    a) No local control for KC over KCPD. This city and the unions are corrupt to the core and the State is fully aware of it.

    b) Unions are destructive forces, ESPECIALLY public sector unions. They will weaken and die under the weight of their own corruption as the public finally wakes up and sees what a scam they are.

    c) Unions are fronts for organized crime and are also cash funnels for Democrat Socialist politics. People have had enough of this corruption and are voting in Right To Work laws. Michigan, a union-mentality stronghold and symbol of union corrupt power for many decades freely elected Right To Work in the last election.

Wake up assholes, the party is over!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Amen to that 12:40. Also, for those FOP members that believe the FOP is against city control, you are crazy. They are taking a play right out of STL PD playbook. They want to go under city control and they want to be the middle man between the city and the PD. Don't be fooled!

  36. As a 10 year veteran...anf FORMER FOP member...I think I have seen enough. Years ago the FOP screwed the entire department when they chose "meet and Confer" and Corwin, instead of fighting for what they claim to have now. At the time the FOP leadership told us they chose this method because it was against state law for them to become a union. Corwin immediately started their new relationship by telling them to fuck off. Now, suddenly, they fancy themself a union because of some deal they struck with the BOPC. Sorry Napolean..your not the emporer. What pisses me off the most is the threat of discipline, upt to and including termination. Taht just shows they have no power, and never will. The fact they have to have you sign a paper to give them permission to STEAL our money just shows how desperate they are. As to the comment earlier about being lemmings...they must be referring to Brad Lemming...the biggest fuck nut on the pd. With guys like him "fighting" for our rights, who needs to worry about the commanders fucking us. Kansas City citizens, you should be very afraid about what has been going on the past few years. Soon the department will consist of ass kissing do-nothings who get nothing done/dont fight crime, cause all the good officers who still give a shit (like myself) will be gone.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Looks like my comment at 12:40 disappeared, so I'll try again:

What did the $7k+ for the FOP Conference pay for? Who went? For how long? Where did they stay? How much was the hotel, food, per diem? Why should the FOP members pick up the tab for a bill with no details?

$7k+ will buy a lot of beer and hookers!

  38. Only now is the corruption of KCPD coming to light.

  41. Corwin is gone and he's not the problem any more. Now it's the bungling idiots at FOP. They are clueless and careless. It's like watching Laurel and Hardy trying to be intimidating, but at least Laurel and Hardy were funny.

  42. Corwin might be gone but he ruined KCPD, I was one of the officers that was called to "watch" his home while his girlfriend and wife were going at it. All at the Taxpayers expense.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Corwin is gone, but he set the precedent for the current administrations corruption. Here is but a small list of the things I have seen on my time at KCPD: 1)female detective involved in DUI on call in a department vehicle gets a slap on the wrist due to the fact she was sleeping with a now former higher up on the command staff. 2)Female officer assaults 2 other officers in DUI arrest, and is now rumored to be getting her job back. 3)Sergeant involved in on-duty/in uniform robbery in another city doesn't get terminated until he calls another fellow blck officer an "Uncle Tom". 4)FBI forced to investigate officer/wagon driver stealing money from arrests because KCPD wouldn't do it. 5)Sergeants and Captains getting DUI's in department vehicles getting slaps on the wrist. 6)FOP division representative charged with RAPE of prostitutes. 7)Chiefs taking payraise after payraise while their troops are on pay freezes for years. 8)Dectectives so lazy they will not even submit a case to the prosecutor even though they openly admit it should be. 9)Parking control supervisor who has a take home car!!!Absolutely true. 10)Ten million dollars allocated for academy construction dissappears, and then mysteriously reappears. My personal favorite involves the supervisor involved in the recent Catholic child abuse case here in KC.Being a member of the church, he was contacted by a church member when alleged child porn was found on the priests computer. Said supervisor proceeds to take a description of the photos OVER THE PHONE, and never even attempts to begin an investigation into the matter. Said photos were later used to convict said priest. IF ANY PATROL OFFICER HAD DONE THIS IT WOULD HAVE MOST LIKELY RESULTED IN TERMINATION... as it should. All this happened under Corwins watch. The same Corwin who now has been appointed by the city to investigate sex abuse in KC in the Catholic church. Enter Forte...who continues the proud tradition at KCPD of taking care of his buddies, and fucking over the troops. Corwin was bad, Forte is horrible. The sad thing is before he took over I had never heard anything bad about him. The older officers I know said he was a stand up guy. Many of them are baffled at what has happened. Combine this all with a city councel as corrupt and power hungry as our current representatives in Washington, and nothing good will happen once the city gets local control. Many current officers are seeing the writing on the wall...and leaving. Pay attention people, you are seeing the slow death of KCPD, and eventually this city.

Kansas City residents share concerns about the proposed city budget....... here's some more concerns. Look where your tax dollars go. Just at KCPD.

Kansas City police commanders, lobbyist charge taxpayers for pricey meal and booze at Capital Grill. In all, Lewis and Stewart charged about $7,000 last year in meals, gas and other expenses for about 80 days' worth of work between them. They also charged about $5,000 for lodging. In 2009, they charged about $7,600 in meals and expenses and about $6,000 in lodging.

100 New Kansas City police cars sit idle in storage.
The Kansas City Police Department spent at least $2.1 million in the last 13 months to buy more than 100 vehicles that will take months — perhaps years — to fully deploy.
And some Kansas City Council members, still in the midst of their own budget crisis, are angry. Part of that money, they contend, might have helped keep officers on the streets instead of keeping idle cars in a garage for the future. “We know they need cars,” said Councilwoman Deb Hermann. “But we need things at the city, too.”

Gates also called Mayor Mark Funkhouser and asked him to come to the restaurant to see how officers had clogged up his lot and scared away potential customers. He told Funkhouser the disruption cost him an estimated $3,300.
“Basically, it shut him down for the night,” said Funkhouser, who responded to the scene. “I thought he was right.”

  46. I would like to correct my earlier statement at 1358 hrs. So many fucked up things to remember. My real favorite is probably one not many people outside of the department know about...the officer who was working at Ward Parkway the day the psycho shot it up. When the shooting started she bravely hid in one of the stores as he walked right by her. But what do you expect from a PD where a sitting member of the BOPC resigned from said PD many years ago due to the fact he was facing termination for cowardice. Capital Grill is a good one too. How about the PD just gives the FOP their own department credit card, then they will not have to steal from their own people.

I'm guessing you're not innocent and have no right to do any fingerpointing. This is exactly what the city council and BOPC wants, self destruction. If we are divided we have no backbone. We are brothers and sisters in this job and should band together in support of one another. If you don't like what's happening within the FOP then attend meetings, get involved and change it.
