There's always a great socioeconomic and racial disparity when it comes to felony charges in our criminal justice system. The lesson for po'folk and minority youth: Avoid any interaction with the court system like the plague and realize that it just saves money and TIME to fly the straight and narrow.
A 16-year-old was charged as an adult Monday for an incident in November in which he allegedly shot someone outside Ruskin High School.
TKC Not So Fun Fact . . . "African American youth have higher rates of juvenile incarceration and are more likely to be sentenced to adult prison. According to the Sentencing Project, even though African American juvenile youth are about 16 percent of the youth population, 37 percent of their cases are moved to criminal court and 58 percent of African American youth are sent to adult prisons."
The "disparity" is in the BEHAVIOR of the people who commit these crimes. Blacks tend to be much more violent and totally disrespectful to others in society - it's a cultural thing. Don't blame the courts.

By the time many of them are "put away", they have caused untold damage to people and property in the revolving-door justice system. Countless parolees are let loose on society to wreak havoc and commit violent crimes until they finally land a solid class A violent felony conviction that is shocking enough that they are FINALLY sentenced and dealt with seriously.

58 percent of AA Juvies do not go to adult prison while under 18. The real issue is the disproportionate number of deaths and the leading cause of death for 15 to 25 year old AA males. It's homicide. If you don't believe it read any number of books about the West Memphis Three or watch the documentaries. If you don't know them, the short story is they were poor white trash who were completely railroaded and wrongly convicted of murder. Luckily, they are out of jail now after 20 years. That said, it is undeniable blacks commit a disproportionate amount of crimes. That is why they are in jail. Think how many thousands more should be in prison for crimes they haven't been caught for. The amount of crime and misery they inflict is truly unbelievable given their relatively small percentage of the population. If only they put the effort they put into not working and commiting crimes into doing good. But that will never happen. In 500 years they will be saying the same thing about black people. ReplyDeleteRace aside, I don't think anyone who commits a violent crime should get a pass because they are not of legal age. It is not that sad when a violent criminal gets locked up. It is sad that there are so many victims of violent crimes that see their attackers slapped on the hand because of some legal folly.
