Here's a nice write-up featuring Kansas City ranking #2 on a top 10 listing of cities for book lovers.
Rainy Day Books gets a mention as the best place to pick up a piece of history and a testament to when paper (Dead Trees) was still used to convey ideas.

TKC - I'm shocked you don't know the reason for this ranking. It's because our weather is terrible. Honestly, there's only about 40 good days in a year. The rest are either cold, sweltering hot, raining, snowing, sleeting, or a combination of all of the above on the same day! So, there is a downsize to this high ranking!
The highest literacy rates in the world are in Scandanavia where it is cold more often than not so they read a lot too. That or their literacy rate has something to do with they are all white.
KC #2 book city. Bullshit. Half the population can't read thanks to the wonderful school district.
