The Economic Policy Institute is a 501(c)(3) non-profit American think tank based in Washington, D.C.[2] EPI presents a liberal[3] viewpoint on economic issues.

The Prosperity Economics plan suggests that major public investment in areas like infrastructure is needed to jump-start the economy.[10]
Eight labor unions made a five-year funding pledge to EPI at its inception: AFSCME, United Auto Workers, United Steelworkers, United Mine Workers, International Association of Machinists, Communications Workers of America, Service Employees International Union, and United Food and Commercial Workers Union.[12] According to EPI, about 29% of its funding between 2005 and 2009 was supplied by labor unions and about 53% came from foundation grants.[2]

It's also important to note what sort of organization the innocuously named Economic Policy Institute is. By just taking a look at the EPI board of directors, we find that 10 of the board members are heads or former heads of national unions, including Richard Trumka (AFL-CIO), Randi Weingarten (American Federation of Teachers), Andy Stern and Anna Burger (SEIU), Ron Gettelfinger (United Auto Workers), and Leo Gerard (United Steelworkers of America). Consider also that one of the institute's former senior economists, Jared Bernstein, is now the chief economist and economic policy advisor to Vice President Joe Biden.

No one has EVER legally been forced to join a union in this country, and the very small number who have been forced to illegally is a fraction of the number of people who have been illegal intimidated, coerced or physically attacked for attempting to exercise their constitutional and God given right to assemble and associate as the see fit.

ReplyDeleteSocialized roads, infrastructure, sewer systems, mail, internet access, taxpayer funded or subsidized stores, development, businesses, Fire departments, police departments, industry, research, development, science, technological advances etc., etc. etc.
100% of people in the country benefit directly from socialized government-run services, nobody more than the wealthy and corporations, who literally would not exist without the intervention of a socialized system of taxation and wealth distribution. Try to ship your goods with no railroad (socialized), highways (socialized), shipping (government built and operated), or airports (government operated, payed for and regulated).
