This is the way Dead Tree Media ends . . . Very much like vinyl records but with way more whining:
CHECK OUT A STAR FURLOUGH MEMO OBTAINED BY BOTTOM LINE COMMUNICATIONS
The deal:
"Star President and Publisher Mi-Ai Parrish noted that revenue projections “continue to track below prior year.”
"Because of this situation she has ordered another round of furloughs at the McClatchy-owned newspaper, which has gone through this drill now for years.
"All senior team members and most full-time employees are required to take a one-week furlough by June 30."
By and large I'm not celebrating the downfall of a bygone and outdated mode of communication . . . Although there's a few former and current Star employees I wish they could fire twice.
Still, the point of all this is clear . . .
THERE IS NO FUTURE IN PRINTING LOCAL HISTORY ON DEAD TREES AND CALLING IT NEWS!!! THE DAYS OF AN ARMY OF TRUCKS DELIVERING PAPER TO THE DOORSTEP OF THE CITY ARE OVER!!!
Meanwhile TV news continues to be underrated when it comes to the great deal of journalism they conduct AND more often than not the Internets is now the most viable outlet for the written word, a bit of journalism and more discussion and community than Dead Tree Media ever offered.
DEVELOPING . . .
Good riddance Yael and Lewis.
ReplyDeleteDitto!
DeleteYael shows his ugly mug on tv once in a while. He has a following beyond the paper.
ReplyDeleteLewis is done. Nobody likes his whiney act.
A week of unpaid vacation. Sounds nice to me!
ReplyDeleteFurlough is the suburban term for fired.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteFuck The KC Communist Star
I doubt any one will notice their absence.
ReplyDeleteThe Star's new banner -- A NEWSPAPER WITH NO NEWS
ReplyDeleteYael and Jail rhyme, do they not.
ReplyDeleteHow appropriate.
Most of the reporters don't bother spending much extra effort. It's just not worth it. I keep telling them they would be better off spending their days looking for a new job.
ReplyDeleteWho in the hell would complain about a week off? Other then people who are over their heads with bills.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait until Hearne does this story on his site. I guarantee he will use the line like "everyone knew this was coming."
ReplyDeleteHe hates it when Lansberg scoops him on stories where he used to work so he pretends like he knew it was coming.
Of course, just because he worked there doesn't mean anyone liked him.
Watch for it.
Looking next for the KC Star to emulate the New Orleans Time Picayune and go to only 3 X week.....the slow death continues....but, make no mistake, it is death that is coming.
ReplyDeleteThe Falling Star has been dead for years now. The story's are vapid and the quality control non-existent. There are more mistakes and misspelled words, than a third grade writing assignment. It's pitiful and so is Kansas City.
ReplyDeleteGood riddance to the flaming loonie smegma-dreks at the end-stage hospice patient Star.
ReplyDeleteAnd a particular Fuck You to YA and BS.
Be quiet guys, Yael is crying!
ReplyDeleteJust one other symptom sign that this whole country is going down the tubes.
ReplyDeleteThe 2008 bubble is still hissing and and just hasn't flopped onto the ground yet.
ReplyDeleteNot Hoops, Not Hoops, Not Hoops, Not Hoops, Not Hoops..........
ReplyDeleteMaybe they'll merge that horrible rag they publish, INK, with the Kansas City Star and call it, Star Ink. Or.....
ReplyDeleteIf you let me keep my job you can fuck me in the ass anytime you want!
