Governor Brownback is doing his damnedest to make Kansas more like Texas: more regressive, worse schools, more poverty, and less worker protections. You can find some disturbing facts about the state of Texas below:
- 27% of Texas children live in poverty, ranking Texas 42nd nationally.
- 18.5% of all Texans live below the poverty line, good for 40th nationally.
- 24% of Texas’s population is uninsured, the highest rate in the nation.
- Texas also leads the nation in uninsured children with 17% of Texas children having no insurance. In Kansas, only 8% of children are uninsured.
- 9.5% of TX workers make minimum wage and receive no medical benefits, making Texas the state with the most workers at earning minimum wage.
- 28% of Texas 4th graders read at or above a proficient level 39th nationally. In contrast, 36% of Kansas 4th graders read proficiently or better, good for 12th best nationally.
- Texas has the 7th most regressive tax system, taking over 12% of the bottom 20% income while only receiving 3% of the wealthiest 1% income.

I guess it is a matter of what statistics one wants to look at and how they are broken down. For instance the reading level, how many of those people actually speak english? Seems like a very fare question to ask. I did notice 2 stats that were left out, because they do no prove your point: 6.1% unemployment. And in 1 year state went from 27.8 B deficit to a 8.8 Billion surplus. Seems like they are doing things right!

Green: east Texas is green, from the sludge of houston in a little strip of ugly piney woods right up the Louisiana border. That's about 10% of the state. East Kansas is greener, more forested, has hardwoods and is a bigger percentage of the state.
Employed: below living wage, also uneducated, poverty stricken, with no health care, services or social contract. That's not just the Texas model, its also how they do it in Mexico, India, China, Indonesia, and all those other utopias.

ReplyDeleteDuring my 45 year career I have lived in more than a dozen major U.S. cities from east to west and north to south. Having dealt officials from the Federal level on down to the Municipal level for many years, I have seen the slide downward for decades.

KC's highest level of culture has become its culture of corruption. What once had made KC a beautiful and vibrant place has long since been destroyed.
KC is on the fast track to destruction from within like so many other cities that have already reached, or passed, the point of no return. Detroit is one example of the future of KC and its "culture". Philadephia is headed there. St. Louis is near its point of no return. Chicago will reach a point of insolvency, chaos, and implosion within the next 4 to 6 years.
