A big part of the problem is that some of these organizations force the homeless to sit and listen to a bunch of religious bullshit before they get a meal.

There is one VERY decent organization that goes out to the camps and gives them food without religion for dessert.
It isn't religion for dessert if they have to listen to it before they get the meal as you stated - that would make it religion for appetizer.

ReplyDeleteI live in the Northeast and put up with these so called homeless people breaking into vacant houses to steal the copper, shitting in our front yards, stealing and destroying our monuments, washing themselves in our fountains, the list goes on... The so called faith based organizations that come here to feed these people enable them to stay living in our parks, back yards and abandoned houses. But the real reason the organizations are doing this is to keep these people from wandering into their neighborhoods.

ReplyDeleteMost of us has to sit through 8 hours a day of work for 5 days a week to be able to eat, so heaven forbid someone has to sit through a few minutes of hearing how God has something better for them than doing drugs and alcohol and prostituting themselves. How awful for them to hear that God loves them and wants to help them and then are offered resources to help them get off the streets. Yeah, that's just awful. But the councilman wasn't talking just about faith based services. There are other groups that aren't faith based that see the reality of homelessness. These are human beings we are talking about, who deserve to be treated as such, not a rabid dog in the street. If someone is hungry, feed them. What isn't helping them is people giving them money (via them pan handling) which allows them to go and buy their addiction.
