He is right. His stupidity in office has to come to an end. Its politicians such as himself, that have got us sort of into this issue. Bring back hardcore mental health treatments for those who need it. But as well the media and every attention seeking person in all phases of public life have to stop glorifying the incidents for which they seek attention from and in which people who suffer from mental illness see and act out on seeking the attention from them they get. But in so many ways these random acts are nothing short of terrorism. Acts of killing huge numbers of people and then yourself or being killed while doing horrendous acts is one and the same as what any terrorist around the world is doing for whatever cause it is they believe in. Gun control will never stop people such as this and history has proven so. Gun control on our airlines didn’t stop 911. One only has to look back at what Timothy McVey did for that proof. Notice how in all this time our so called leaders have not put an end to terrorism. No in fact it has grown and they the government the truth be known, are powerless to stop it."

Bob Believes That A 2nd Amendment Crackdown Would Jeopardize Other Rights . . .
"I am a big 2nd amendment guy. I get that the push for gun control is now upon us. I just ask that since it is a constitutional right, that what ever controls go for guns, be applied to the 1st amendment also. Not that I wish to diminish the 1st amendment but for people to truely understand the consequences of what they do. What if the 1st amendment was limited to one story per month with a "government fact checker" to approve the story. We know the 1st amendment has caused harm to people intentional and unintentional, look at the history of William Randolph Hearst " You furnish the pictures I'll furnish the war" to sell news papers and "Don't be afraid to make mistakes the readers might like it". Look at the story of putting Korans into the toilet at Guantanamo Bay that caused our troops to be killed and many were killed in riots around the world. What if we put bans on violent movies and games. Quintin Tarantino would be out of a job. (I like some of his stuff) If the government can diminish my rights it can diminish and take away yours."

ReplyDeleteNothing the Prez or Congress does will make it illegal for a law-abiding teacher to own pistols. Lanza killed his own mom and took her lawfully-acquired guns. More gun control will not help.

ReplyDeleteEveryone refers to the shooter as mentally ill. But, ask yourself this: Why does a female elementary teacher own an AR-15? What's it for? Children don't become mentally ill in a vacuum.
It's really quite simple. Automatic weapons were designed to hunt and kill people, not deer and rabbits.

ReplyDeleteTony, the discussions in the Sandy Hook Massacre threads here on TKC are some of the most interesting I've read on the tragedy. Above all, I'm most impressed by Byron's mental fortitude. While I disagree with his, "disarm now" opinion, I do admire his tenacity.
ReplyDeleteI hope Obama will address first the ease of obtaining weapons of choice vs. the difficulties of obtaining access to mental health care.
I know from experience parents of disturbed children, specifically sociopathic children, are denied access to mental health services, subjected to scorn, ridicule and consequences arising from thier childrens behaviors thus leaving those parents, thier children and the public at large in grave danger.
Byron, Dave and Chuck all made excellent points in our need to address access to mental health services, our obsession with glorifying murderous animals, and finally, stricter, tighter gun controls.
Why are you rewarding Byron, Dave and Chuck. Tony's regulars and not the rest of us?

Let's try a logical question. Do you want to live in a society where only police and thugs have guns? Pass all the gun control laws in the world, go door to door and confiscate all legally held guns and by the end of the day, the thugs will still be armed. You cannot have a police state where the citizens are armed. How about crime control rather than gun control?

ReplyDeleteThe desire of commie libs, educators and parents to achieve equal outcome will never work. Kids that have mental issues should not be integrated into the mainstream education system. There is a reason they are called special needs.
It also appears that she did not have her firearms and ammo not properly secured in the house. Gun owners have an obligation to society to keep their arms properly secured. In that obligation it would appear that she failed.

You are so correct with this statement 12:15 and this is an issue that is well just being ignored.And here was a family that had more than enough money it appears to seek help for their special needs child.
Sure its sad all these people died but as well a mother died by the hands of her own son because she it appears could face up to his problems as a child. Addressing parents who can't raise their children correctly is being ignored when it should be a very hot topic. I for one would rather see my tax dollars helping people who are really sick and need help over some low life crack head or lazy ass whiners who say they can't work and get monthly hand outs.

ReplyDeleteAgain the fucking gun experts are sticking their heads up their collective asses. A civilian version of the AR-15 is NOT an automatic weapon. However, it looks mean to a drama queen. Problem is every piece of assault weapon legislation on the books today is about how a weapon looks and not about what it does. Under that last ban if I put black stocks on a wood stocked 22 rifle it suddenly became an assault weapon. This is what happens when a bunch of panicky dumb asses who don't know shit about what they are talking about start passing legislation just to keep their sissy friends back home happy. When people stazrt looking at VOILENCE CONTROL instead of GUN CONTROL they might manage to think of some intelligent solutions to one of society's major ills.

I think it should be mandatory that every school have a few teachers trained on firearms, and protection. Then those same teachers should be carrying a pistol at all times along with a pager that can alert them to a threat at their school. Then they should act accordingly. If a teacher had a ccw and had used it, very few lives would have been lost. Instead kids huddled in a corner and were gunned down by a psycho. The way to fix this is to protect the children, not ban guns.
