Kander announces hires in secretary of state's office

From Secretary of State-elect Jason Kander's Office

Secretary of State-elect Jason Kander today announced three members of his leadership team who will hold top positions in the Secretary of State’s office.

The office will be run by Abe Rakov, who will serve as Kander’s Chief of Staff. Rakov has experience in both state and federal government, including in the Missouri Secretary of State’s office from 2009-2011. A graduate of Northwestern University, he worked for Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan and served as Communications Director for U.S. Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton. Most recently, Rakov managed Kander’s campaign for Secretary of State.

Kander also announced that Barbara Wood will remain General Counsel and assume the additional role of Deputy Secretary of State. Wood has served as the office’s General Counsel since 2005. Wood previously served as the General Counsel for the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, as well as an Assistant Attorney General.

Joining Wood in the counsel’s office as Senior Counsel will be Casey Clark, currently the First Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for the Crimes Against Persons Unit in the Greene County Prosecutor’s office. Clark has worked in the Greene County Prosecutor’s office since 2005 and was twice voted Greene County Prosecuting Attorney of the Year by his peers.

“I am putting together a staff made up of people who are committed to public service. My office will work every day to make it easier to start a business in Missouri, protect Missourians from fraud, and make sure that every eligible Missourian can vote,” Kander said. “Having Abe, Barb and Casey lead my team will ensure that happens.”

Kander and his transition team will announce the rest of his senior staff in the coming weeks. He will be sworn in on January 14, 2013.

  7. He's not talking about ballot initiatives. Carnahan was awful in this regard. Kander's silence is telling in and of itself.
