Kansas City Local Shopping App: Lantern

There's a lot of hype about tech startups in Kansas City but here @ TKC we've actually found something that seems useful.

Personally, I don't download apps because my phone is stupid, not smart and they have yet to develop a tracker that locates chubby, 30-something Kansas City-area blondes with low self-esteem and good credit.

However, this seems interesting . . .

Lantern is a local Kansas City software/app company that promotes and facilitates local shopping.

And no . . . These d-bags aren't advertising on TKC. I just think their stuff is kind of interesting. For the most part, local start-ups are too stingy to advertise anywhere but we like Latern because they didn't start a conversation with me by offering a legal mordida offer for sponsorship in exchange for editorial content like the d-bags @ Zaarly. Did Zaarly move out of town already?

Yeah, I've been doing this blog long enough with neither the want nor offer of advertising and suffered enough indignities for most people to realize that I'm not in this thing because I want a stupid coupon . . . Besides, I try not to buy things.

But I digress . . .

We like the local angle @ Lantern . . . And the list of local biz teaming up with Lantern is rather impressive.

For those not living in a basement who actually enjoy buying stuff . . . Lantern might be worth checking out in order to support all the Kansas City local businesses teetering on the verge of collapse.

And all of this reminds me that I probably made the right decision when I gave up on a career in advertising. Natch.

  4. why would you trust it with anybody?

Then again, I love discounts and I could give a shit about they see that I'm obsessively checking the weather.

Tin foil hat @ 3:15 sounds like he has found an even deeper basement than TKC. Bunker?

  5. Hey all, we use industry standard security and encryption to protect all our users' data and we take your privacy seriously as we have our own data right along side yours. Not sure what to say about the copycat comment other than that if an app had existed that did what Lantern does, we would have just used that. We created Lantern because we wanted to eat and shop local, wanted to save money and wanted to do it without buying vouchers or paying a middleman. If you give it a try, you may like it too.
