TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! MAYOR SLY SMILES BRIGHT AND LIGHTS THE KANSAS CITY MAYOR'S CHRISTMAS TREE TONIGHT!!!

Another sentimental Kansas City holiday tradition led by Mayor Sly this evening . . .

On the bright side, The Mayor's X-Mas Tree Fund is back in the black and helps local po'folk during the holiday season with far more cash flowing than during the previous Mayor's tenure.

Kansas City will light the Mayor’s Christmas Tree tonight at 5:30 p.m.

(Kansas City, Missouri) --- Kansas Citians will join together to light the Mayor’s Christmas Tree this evening. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. outside Crown Center.

The 100-foot-tall Mayor’s Christmas Tree, one of the nation’s tallest, is the centerpiece of the holiday celebration. Kansas City Chiefs Ambassadors, including Bobby Bell, Kendall Gammon, Ted McKnight and Duane Clemons, will join Mayor Sly James to flip the switch to light the tree.

The tree is a symbol of the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund, which is dedicated to assisting the city’s less fortunate. Last year the fund helped over 7,000 Kansas City families.

After the holidays, the wood from the Mayor’s Christmas Tree is made into commemorative ornaments, which are sold the following year to benefit the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund. The 2012 ornament are on sale today at the Crown Center Customer Service office.

“For over a century, the Mayor’s Christmas Tree has stood as a symbol of the generosity, kindness and compassion of Kansas Citians. Last year, we strived to set the Christmas Tree fund back into good financial shape, build its reserve and focus on its primary role of helping our fellow residents in need during the holiday season,” said Mayor James. “I am very proud to report we helped thousands last year and ask Kansas Citians to help make this year an even larger success.”
