TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE ADVOCACY!!! STAY TUNED FOR NEWS OF AN ORDINANCE RESTRICTING MARATHONS BLOCKING KANSAS CITY STREETS!!!

Recently I bumped into a City Council lady while getting an 85 cent cup of coffee from a gas station.

I didn't have much to talk to her about so I yelled at her regarding so many recent marathons that have blocked local streets.

And so . . .

WORD AROUND THE CAMP FIRE IS THAT THERE IS THAT CITY COUNCIL IS GOING TO INTRODUCE AN ORDINANCE THAT WOULD HELP REGULATE THE BLOCKING OF STREETS FOR POINTLESS MARATHONS!!!

You're welcome.

In the grand scheme of things this legislation is rather pointless but might provide a small bump for small local biz that this town's politicos have otherwise ignored.

Also . . . At least one Councilperson is worried about making the wrong impression when talking about regulating "race" in Kansas City . . . Obviously, nobody wants to seem racist. Or something.

DEVELOPING. . .

  1. About time.

  2. It's not pointless if you live or have to do business in the area (note-singular) these narcissistic twits have chosen to bless with their presence. It wouldn't be so bad if these things were held in other parts of the metro so everyone could see just how thrilling it is to deal with them.

By the way, who pays for the police who close the streets and redirect traffic during these events?

    1. The race organizers pay for the police. They in turn get the money by charging a fee for the run. The organizers also purchase the permit for the street closure.

    2. We still have to be held hostage in our neighborhoods each time a race comes through and it gets to be too much. On the Eastside of Brookside, you might be boxed in for nearly a half day...and, police "will let you through when there is a break in runners" which take quite awhile.

  3. Shoulda tossed the hot coffee on the clouncil bum!

  4. Yes, no marathons. Or sports teams. Or museums. Or performing arts centers. Or bar / restaurant districts. Just strip malls. Wait, Tony, I've got it! Move to fucking Johnson County!

    ReplyDelete
  5. No, hold the marathons In JOCO. On I-35. Without blocking traffic.

    ReplyDelete
  6. 8:55: Museums, performing arts centers, sports teams, and bar/restaurant districts don't block traffic in the whole midtown area. Obviously you don't live in the impacted area.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I-35. No police protection. Sounds good.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Staten Island sounds good, too.

    ReplyDelete
  9. The Paseo never has traffic on it early on Saturdays or Sundays. Just use a good route like that.

    ReplyDelete
  10. No shit. Nothing like heading to McDonalds for a hangover breakfest and getting rerouted 85 times so that some participant can power walk all the way up mainstreet.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Somebody give 9:09 a gold star. That is the best idea I have heard today.

    ReplyDelete
  12. You chose to live in the urban core. Cities host things like festivals, concerts, and marathons. If you don't like it, move to the burbs.

    ReplyDelete
  13. 12:03: Go fuck yourself. I was here first.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Um, unless you're over 100, the urban core with it's marathons and such was here first. So go ahead and fuck YOUR self, asshole.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I am annoyed by the pointless marathons. It seems there could be a better place for this type of event like maybe a park! Swope Park has all kind of land where they wouldn't bother a sole. The mindless power walker or sprinter could easily enjoy him/herself without any police blockades. Knock yourself out.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Marathons. Don’t get this concept at all. Kansas City is not New York by any stretch of the imagination. Those marathons need to be placed where the people who live there enjoy them. A busy intersection is not the best solution and it unnerving.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I-35. No police. Make it a run for your life.

    ReplyDelete
  18. 12:31. Yeah, right. The Kansas City marathon is 100 years old, and North Slope has been having their thing since the Titanic went down. You are so full of it and yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Funding for the Police comes from the Race organizers thru the entry fee paid for by the runners!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. But what about all the lost business? Will the runners pay for that too?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Freedom Inc was going to sponser a marathon but with all those brothers running through the city, the KCPD was afraid it would overload the 9/11 call center.

    ReplyDelete
  22. You don't understand the mentality of these narcissistic twits, Borge. They think they are doing a public service and those who merely want to go about their usual Saturday business are slackers.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I-35. No police. Thin the herd.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Many people's lives have been changed for the better mentally and or physically because of training for a marathon. They're always early in the morning, you get plenty of advance notice of the route if you care to take the time to check it out, and it doesn't last that long. Why is it so hard for you people to just find an alternate route that day if you really have to get out that morning? Or perhaps just wait until after it's done. It's not like you're doctors that need to get to the ER for a medical emergency. And runners are not narcissists, they're great people who like to stay in shape and love the community of the marathon. Train for a short race and run one, you'll love hanging with the other runners after the race. Unlike tkc and others on this blog they're positive people who don't think everything in kc sucks.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Amen 3:38. If we listened to these no-on-everything folks, we'd all live in strip mall hell like Johnson County. In other words, Tony's version of the Garden of Eden.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I will never like running enough to train for and run a marathon. But more power to all of you that do. I've played sports my entire life and continue to stay in very good shape into my 30's so I understand the mentality. Don't mind all the negative losers on here who only get off there couch when they run out of stuff to bitch about. I've been re-routed a few times by a race....NOT a big deal. Get over yourselves! And for several on here who don't like the races try getting out of your moms basement a little more and realize there is much more to life....

    ReplyDelete
  27. 3:38 & 4:20 If you like these marathons so much, why not have them in your neighborhood? We midtowners want to share the wealth. And 3:38, please look at the KC Marathon map. There sometimes is no "alternate route." And the last one, the North Face (aka South Ass) got very little publicity, and some of them last most of the day.

The most annoying attitudes these people hold are pretty much in 3:38's post:

    (1) Many people's lives have been changed for the better mentally and or physically because of training for a marathon.

Goodie. How about those of us who are repeatedly inconvenienced because these twits (narcissist or not) want their lives changed?

    (2) Why is it so hard for you people to just find an alternate route that day if you really have to get out that morning? Or perhaps just wait until after it's done. It's not like you're doctors that need to get to the ER for a medical emergency.

We live here. How about if we WANT to "get out" on one of our two days off work each week? The South Face lasted until 4 PM. Do you really think people should be trapped in their homes so some twits want their lives changed? And there are actually some people who live in midtown who ARE doctors that need to go to the ER, and there could certainly be some patients who need to get to the hospital while you're honoring us with your presence.

    (3) And runners are not narcissists, they're great people who like to stay in shape and love the community of the marathon.

You can stay in shape without blocking traffic. While it's great you love "the community of the marathon," it's unfortunate you don't give a damn for the community where you have your marathon.

You are, in short, self-absorbed narcissistic twits.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I-35. No police. Feel good and love the marathon community.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Not one of the pro-marathon letters has answered the big question: why do they always have to be in midtown?

    ReplyDelete
  30. 6:21, I call bullshit on you even though you won't listen because you choose not to but really? Let's say you live at 25 and Jefferson or anywhere else in this city. You are telling me that you can't find an alternate route that will take you around a race route? If the race is mostly through downtown, midtown, and the plaza you can't get to the river market or wherever it is your going because of the race? Again, bullshit! I can find a hundred routes that willget you whe you want to go. Poor poor excuse.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I was at the recent marathon running from the Plaza to downtown, and followed the route around in my car to stop and cheer for someone at several points. Never had a problem getting around or through, and the cops were very helpful. Yeah, when I crossed the race route, I had to at times wait 30 seconds extra at a stop sign to let runners pass. You people are a bunch of fucking whiners.

    ReplyDelete
  32. 3:38 pretty much says it all: "Why is it so hard for you people to just find an alternate route that day if you really have to get out that morning? Or perhaps just wait until after it's done. It's not like you're doctors that need to get to the ER for a medical emergency."

How dare we ("you people") inconvenience these golden gods? Why, it's up to us ("you people") to put our lives on hold ("if you REALLY have to get out" "just wait until after it's done"). It's not like we're imnportant enough ("It's not like you're doctors that need to get to the ER for a medical emergency") to deter their really important run through what we thought was our neighborhood.

How fucking entitled can these people get?

    ReplyDelete
  33. 10:30: As 10:41 pointed out, it's hard to get around something when you're starting out within the boundaries, and 8:07, I too have been waiting at the race crossing points while these rude narcissists rushed to make sure there would be no way to cross even if they could only manage one person at a time to block traffic. That sure made me want to cheer.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Let them run in the median of the interstate.
Let them run in Swope Park.
Let them run on the streets way up north where no body drives.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I-35. Not on the median. No police. Darwin would approve.

    ReplyDelete
  36. What a bunch of fucking hissy fitters. Pull your panties out of your cracks and realize that some people enjoy being part of a city wide event, even if you've got to spend 5 minutes extra getting around that day. My God, you should go to Chicago, LA, NY, Dallas, hell St. Louis and try to get around the urban core during normal times. And those cities cordon shit off on a regular basis for citywide events, and people don't bitch and moan like you all. You know why? They CHOSE to live in the city, not the burbs, so they expect and appreciate activities that happen in the city. You don't like being part of the city, move out to Johnson County with all the other bitchy whiners.

    ReplyDelete
  37. If it's so much fun to be part of a city wide event, why not let other parts of the city in on the fun?
