TKC EXCLUSIVE AND BREAKING NEWS!!! REPORT: URBAN CORE TRAFFIC CHAOS THANKS TO MISGUIDED KANSAS CITY STOP LIGHT REPLACEMENT EFFORT!!!

Once again it seems as if Mayor Sly and the City Council have made a major miscalculation regarding the streets of Kansas City and the priorities of residents and voters.

To wit . . .

EARLY REACTION TO STOPLIGHT REPLACEMENT IN KANSAS CITY'S URBAN CORE HAS BEEN RESOUNDINGLY NEGATIVE!!!

We've talked to a few Kansas City Insiders and urban core denizens about this topic and the controversial program to replace stoplights with stop signs has met with overwhelmingly negative reaction.

Here are a few reactions . . .

"It's not a safety issue, it's a basic lack of resources being allocated to our community. They're cutting corners in the urban core. They could never get away with taking out stoplights in the Northland."

"Mayor James talked about remembering Montgall and the urban core. It looks like he has forgotten about his neighborhood and doesn't even want to give us stoplights while he helps developers build the Downtown streetcar"

And my favorite comment . . .

"With one single decision Mayor Sly James and The City Council have moved the urban core in this city backwards almost 75 years. We can't manage street lights? That's an unacceptable defeat for a city that's trying to lead the way toward new technology."

Even worse . . . We're getting reports of dangerous intersections that haven't grown accustomed to the change . . . And let's remember stop signs in this town are pretty much optional anyway when there aren't police around.

All things considered . . . This stop light move is seen as an affront to the urban core and another sign that Mayor Sly and company are out of touch with what happens on Kansas City streets.

DEVELOPING . . .

UPDATE . . . TAKE A LOOK AT NORTHEAST NEWS COVERING THIS TOPIC AS WELL!!!

  1. Too many City planners in KCMO made this bad decision possible.

  2. Really? I think you've got that backwards. KCMO only has 12 planners..

More like Too few City planners in KCMO made this bad decision..

  3. As a cop in the urban core, I can tell you this was a "HUGE" mistake. Accidents and many will happen!!!!! Nobody knows how to use a 4-way stop. Unbelievable! Hope you all are fully insured, because the Hispanic folks definitely don't know how they work!!

Good luck and look all "3" ways 2 times before proceeding!

  4. As usual, the folks at 12th and Oak have blundered into yet another public safety decision without, consulting with the people who most likely know what's going on, namely the officers on the ground.
Just like the paperless ticketing system that takes way more time.
And the radios that don't work in certain parts of town.
It's too bad no one at city hall has ANY interest in publicsafety issues in the city, even ones like removing stoplights.
By the way, will the streetcar have to stop for traffic lights? Now that's a really imporant decision.
    The carnival continues!

  5. It really pisses me off they did that in Brookside. Mayor James, I can't wait to vote your worthless ass OUT.

    ReplyDelete
  6. You should start a boycott of downtown, Tony.

    ReplyDelete
  7. The city is providing less service on the east side because fewer and fewer people live there. Entire blocks with less than 20% of the houses occupied are typical and there are thousands of vacant lots with trees taller than two-story buildings.
Residents are bailing out because the school system has been a terrible disaster for decades and they would like a safe neighborhood for their kids to play and grow up in.
And what passes for leaders in the community just want more of whatever, and mostly for themselves.
Folks are tired of waiting and listening to the same old 1960s crap.
Would the last person to leave please turn out the lights and get their refund for the Google 100X fiber?

  8. Sly is a liar and i will never vote for him again, he is taking us backward.

    ReplyDelete
  9. A 21 century city removing stop light , what a joke.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Sly is only worried about his next move, so now we see the true picture of him what he is doing with these signs is dangerous.

    ReplyDelete
  11. This may or may not be a bad move, but it was done in such a wide area and with no notice. It seems to me it would have made sense to try it at a few intersections before making changes all over the place. And it isn't jus the east side. The lights at Oak and Meyer are now being replaced, too.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Sly is doing this to make it easier for niggers to carjack whitey at 4 way stops. This is clearly a racially motivated action.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Sly has made a mistake, him and his white girl Cindy.

    ReplyDelete
  14. The only reason to have stoplights is so the city can issue tickets for not stopping. Since inner city drivers don't pay tickets there's no reason to have stoplights.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Then why are they doing this in Brookside where whitey has money to pay tickets?

    ReplyDelete
  16. You guys should get some facts straight. The removal of the lights is basically mandated by federal standards for roads and highways. The city had no choose in the matter, unless you think defending lawsuits because the city is not up to the required standards a good fiscal idea.

    ReplyDelete
  17. No it's not. It's the shitty way City Hall deals with everything.

    Screw you Troy!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Ok, smarty, what are these standards and where can I find them?

    ReplyDelete
  19. I heard this was a federal mandate by the transportation administration.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Check the federal highway administration. There are hundreds of pages to search through that lay out the types of signage needed at each type if intersection. All with conditions like traffic, pedestrians, and visual issues addressed. These rules have been around since at least the '30's

  21. I love the police officer that has race issues with Hispanics, shocking you are not respected.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Most of these lights were totally unecessaty anyway, like 75% of KC's traffic engineering because:

    KC HAS NO TRAFFIC. ANYWHERE.

Those lights on Meyer and Gregory had 1 or 2 car idling all the time while no cars travelled through the green lights.

Now the city needs to remove a few lanes from most of its major streets like Main and Grand and make them into bike only lanes or bus only lanes then we'll be starting to catch up with urban planning from 20 years ago. Right now our city planners are stuck in the 70s and its choking this city.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I have had no problems with the five intersections in Northeast that are affected and, in fact, it has speeded up traffic flow considerably....

    ReplyDelete
  24. I can't believe they did this in Waldo and Brookside. It has already caused problems and traffic issues; I'm sure it's only a matter of time before it causes accidents. It's not just the "urban core," Tony--it's nice white neighborhoods too.

    ReplyDelete
  25. LOL @ "stop signs are optional." That's hilarious but true!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Third (Turd) District City Planner is horrid. Now, he's moving to the State. After everybody moves out of this God forsaken City, they won't need City Planners for much. Can't plan for tumble weed?

    ReplyDelete
  27. +1 for "Sly is a liar..."

That is one sad excuse for a Mayor.

    ReplyDelete
  28. 3:45: What are you smoking?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Nice job public works director!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Uh, Brookside and Waldo are "urban core" neighborhoods. In fact, their more urban than most east side neighborhoods. "Urban" and "black" are not synonyms.

    ReplyDelete
  31. @ 4:03pm.. don't have nuttin to do wit Mexicans.. the signs are not in espanyol......

    ReplyDelete
  32. I hate the 4 way stop at 55th and Paseo, and 59th and Paseo...then..I hate all the rest, too. I think it will be a disaster for drivers from every culture and every color because it slows us all down---and wastes time.

    ReplyDelete
  33. You know what's really fucked up? They're installing stop sign cameras.

    ReplyDelete
  34. A four way actually can move more cars per hour than a stop light. It's also cheaper.

Of course, some of you seem befuddled at the complexity of a stop sign. The same type of people that seem confused on how to make a ham and cheese sandwich, or need help tying their shoes.

    ReplyDelete
  35. -A four way actually can move more cars per hour than a stop light.-

Well I saw about 6 Catholic school children almost obliterated at Oak and Meyer yesterday. Not that that would be a bad thing, 6 less urchins trying to hit me up for donations at the market would be a improvement I would vote Sly in again for.

    ReplyDelete
  36. "stop" has four letters. Don't you know that NIGGERS have difficulty managing words over three letters?? Words like "ax", "bro", and "nuf", are the ones they can follow. Maybe we could begin spelling stop with three letters? Stp signs???
