Kansas City contracting news . . .
The following ordinance has been add to the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Agenda scheduled for Thursday, October 4, 2012.
To wit . . .
TAKE A LOOK AT THE LATEST EMERGENCY CITY HALL CONTRACT SOON TO BE AWARDED!!!
120854: Authorizing a contract approximately in the amount of $2,200,000.00 for the resurfacing of various streets citywide; and recognizing an emergency.
A rather DEDICATED CITY HALL WATCHER asks this question to Kansas City:
"Another emergency. Who is getting the contract? Is this going out for bids or are they just handing this to one of the 'favorite' campaign contributors?"
TKC REAL TALK . . . Kansas City streets have been old and busted for quite some time so this rush to award contracts is rather expensive and the "emergency" allows local government to skip over a great deal of due diligence while nobody is looking.
Sly does not answer questions.
ReplyDeleteSo you don't want the streets to be fixed?

ReplyDeleteOK Tony. Time to talk to more than one person for your information. The resurfacing contract ties in to the extra money the city will have because of passage of Question 1 in August. Part of that question, you may recall (or you may not) was that the existing money in the city budget going to parks would be freed up for street maintenance if the sales tax passed. The tax passed, the money was freed up and put into the resurfacing contract which was advertised. The city wants to get contractors working on the streets this year before the weather shuts things down til Spring. There was no conspiracy or impropriety. Sorry to disappoint you.
