Behind the scenes, we know that the first round of fines was along the lines of $175k but that number was knocked down to only $9,500 with a probation peroid of two years.

Statement on behalf of Freedom, Inc.
Resolution of Missouri Ethics Commission Complaints
On behalf of the Freedom, Inc. Leadership team I am pleased to announce that complaints pending before the Missouri Ethics Commission have been resolved. In a Joint Stipulation, Freedom, Inc. acknowledged a series of campaign finance law violations dating back to 2008. Pursuant to a Consent Order issued by the Missouri Ethics Commission on October 26 2012, we paid a fee assessment (fine) in the amount of $9,500.00. The Freedom, Inc. officers responsible for the violations have been removed and replaced. Under the terms of the settlement the organization is, in effect, on probation for a 2 year period during which we must comply with campaign finance laws.
This matter was resolved in a fair and equitable manner by the Ethics Commission. We commend and thank the Commission, their staff, and attorneys for their cooperation and even headed disposition of this case.
Freedom, Inc. has a rich legacy. After fighting Jim Crow and eradicating faction control of the predominantly black wards, Freedom, Inc. organized and mobilized voters to elect the first African Americans to the Kansas City Council, the Missouri Senate, the Mayor's office and the United States Congress. Members of the organization continue to hold elected of appointed positions at every level of government. We are proud of our accomplishments.
A new leadership team comprised of Senator Kiki Curls, Dr. Gayle Holliday, and former Councilman Charles Hazley is managing the organization. There is a new Treasurer and a new secretary who are proficient in accounting, compliance, and record keeping. Under this leadership team the organization is competent, professional and successful. In the August 7th primary election all of the candidates for government office and the issues we are supported won with large majorities. The margins in the predominantly black wards were overwhelming. After 50 years of successfully working for the political empowerment of African Americans the organization is revitalized and moving forward in service to the community.

Most of the candidates in the black wards they are bragging about ran unopposed.
Byron really needs to visit KCMO's east side and see the thousands of abandoned houses, vacant lots, and neighborhood destruction and witness the ceaseless violence and homicides.
The same folks with their selfish personal agendas and their preaching of the same old tired victimization/entitlement story have been a big part of turning the east side into the disaster that it is.
But they won't get out of the way to allow some serious new leadership and the establishent just keeps supporting them because they're afraid to be called names, picketed, or sued.
The KCPD East Patrol Station siting, house condemnation, demolition, and construction contract award are just the lastest example of residents being taken advantage of by the very people who are at the heart of Freedom Inc and the other organizations that make believe they are looking out for and representing east side residents.
Ideas fro the '60s just son't do much to address the challenges of the 21st Century. And neither do the folks who cling to those old ways of looking at and doing things.

Re the east side: I'm white. I don't live there. I volunteered to work with an organization to clear brush, plant flowers, and show support for the good people who I thought lived there. I bought 80 dollars worth of flowers and brought my nice garden tools. I worked my ass off for eight hours cleaning brush. Those thieving motherfuckers stole half the flowers before I could put them In the ground, and stole every gardening tool I wasnt using. So, having put forth an honest effort of time and treasure, and being shit upon by those who I thought were good people, I've come to the conclusion that the east side folks are exactly what the stereotype is. And so are those freedom folks I tried to help.
Charles Hazley? The convicted tax cheat Charles Hazley? Oh, he'll make a great leader. Almost as good as real estate wizard Ken Bacchus or civil servant ace Terry Riley.
Good God, if this is the new, improved and cleaned up Freedom, the old Freedom must have been more corrupt than anyone ever imagined,
MO Ethics no doubt lowered the fine to what they could reasonably scrape out of Freedom's coffers.

I am thankful for Freedom Inc. I get a copy of their ballot every election and vote for the other candidate. If it is good for Freedom Inc, it is NOT good for me.
