Despite so many hard feelings and wavering from Kansas City politicos . . .
The only thing that's clear is: Kansas City Ambulance Service remains a problem for the KCFD.
Time and time again TKC TIPSTERS have warned and talked of this problem but because City Hall is pretty much slave to special interests . . . We're left with nothing but more promises from the same people who designed this disaster merger.
On the bright side, this is one of the many reasons that Council Dude Russ Johnson will never be Mayor of Kansas City . . . Given his fingerprints on whole KCFD Ambulance Service hot mess. Sadly, he isn't really taking responsibility for the fail nowadays and has moved on to giving us the Downtown Toy Train.

The ambulance service was working fine. Then the council "fixed" it with the merge. Now it's not working and so we need another fix. Think the "fix" was in?

Admit this was a huge fucking mistake and divid the ambulance service from the fire department and privatize the ambulance service. This was a fucking mistake from the outset.

It's odd because every other fire based ambulance service in the metropolitan area works just fine.
johnson doesn't run the ambulances.... fire the fire dept.
Once you understand that being mayor or on the council in KCMO is just a hobby or a club, where you're miraculously transformed from being un or marginally employed into a hyper-important celebrity who, for some reason, gets invited to all sorts of things by the swells, get ot play amateur developer with the big boys, fly aorund the country to forums and meetings, and take on personal projects on issues that you don't even have to bother learning anything about.
And you get paid $65,000, have no real responsibilities, don't report to anybody, and have lots of others to blame if things go wrong.

Johnson wasn't the pusher behind the ambulance merger. And he has no interest in being mayor. That's a myth perpetuated by a no-nothing tipster.
The merger could have/should have been done differently. Fire based EMS can/does work with the right leadership. This is where we are now. The right people to over see operations. All services have room for improvement. Public safety is getting taken care of just needs managed Bette and more units on the streets. Thanks

How can you say Johnson wasn't the pusher? Who brought the surprise move to the council floor for a vote when no one else was ready for it? Johnson did.
How quickly everyone forgets that MAST was a financial money pit, a black hole for funds, and their "superior performance" was largely a function of creative bookeeping.
Privatized ambulance service, like all private health care, is an unmitigated disaster. the big difference is that now there is more oversight, more openness with record keeping, and more accountability.
If MAST was a black hole for funds with their $1.5 million subsidy, what would you say the Fire Dept is? How much revenue did THEY generate to offset their $100.5 MILLION budget?
Lets get this straight, MAST sucked, if it hadn't the merger never would have happened. TKC "tipsters" who start these conversations, all have an agenda. This agenda has nothing to do with improving the system or pt care. Almost to a fault these tipsters provide horrible pt care and are bad employees. While there are exceptions, anyone with over 3 years at MAST were the people who couldn't get hired at good EMS agencies. I mean who would stick around somewhere that had no retirement. The fact is the city was and still is trying to provide city services on the cheap, in every city department. No body has the balls to admit we need more taxes to support this city!
