THE TKC SATURDAY NIGHT PLAYLIST!!! PIX FROM THE PLAZA ART FAIR 2012 AND OTHER KANSAS CITY OBSERVATIONS!!!

Here's what The Plaza Art Fair 2012 looked like to me.

There was a lot of interesting stuff to look at for those who bothered to move past the food aisles.

Ed Bartoszek is always one of my favorite Kansas City area artists and his pop art influences mixed with a lively animation style really jumps off the canvas.

Still, as always this event is mostly about people watching.

Lots of awesome robo art as well.

This was probably my favorite "classy" work of art that references Kansas City's jazz history.

The music this year was better . . . Here's "Mole" belting out a rather KICK-ASS version of a Jane's Addiction classic.

A local Mercedes dealer was out in full force hoping the hype about the economy rebounding might be real.

Mike Savage is another favorite Kansas City artist.

In other Plaza news . . .

SAD TO REPORT THAT WE HAVE A LATER REPORT ABOUT A BIT OF PLAZA THUGGERY!!!

While I was there, things were chill . . . But here's what a Kansas City insider has to say . . .

"Down here on the plaza. Lots of teens running around assaulting people and taking their money and phones. About 100-300 of them. Several KCPD cars have been called down here. Seems like all the kids are causing major issues for the businesses and traffic. This is the fourth week in a row they have been down here causing issues, especially since the entertainment district curfew ended."

And all of this has inspired tonight's playlist.

As always, thank you for reading this week and have a safe and fun weekend.

  1. The crowd was pretty passive except when it came to parking.

  2. Man I like that Ed Bartoszek rendering of the Plaza

  3. Nice pics TKC! Better than the pics in the Star which suggest a strong Santa Cali Gon influence among the attendee's.

Friend of mine is working undercover. They are encouraging theft of cells phones, that have tracking devices in them, so they are able to watch where the little thugs are going with the merch. KCPD keeping this on the down low to avoid accusations of entrapment from the "community"

  4. "Economy rebounding"? Really? Where?

  5. It was a beautiful night. One old guy (at his booth) was pissed about the loud music. As I was passing his setup he snarled, "shut up already." I'm sure that was good for his business.

  6. 100 to 300 unruly thugs? Causing havoc on the Plaza? Margaret Sanger woulds be so disappointed if she could see how her efforts failed in 2012.

  7. Nowhere town.

I've been to court twice on assault & battery charges. So, if you're going to insult me you should do it anonymously online. Not to my face. (By the way, dumbass, I live in WV.)

You're no better the 'N' word coward. He would never call a large black man a nigger to his face. He does it anonymously online.

In fact, you might be the same person. All of you anonymous cowards look alike to me.

  11. He's a internet tough guy! Get over yourself.

  12. The Plaza Art Fair used to be about viewing, appreciating, and buying Art.

Now it's about drinking beer, partying, getting drunk, acting like a jackass, the triumph of ignorance.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Please love me and accept me for being an ignorant jackass. I can't help myself and the world isn't fair!

  14. Yes, we wouldn't want any of the self-appointed spokesmen for the "community" to ever inteject ideas like personal responsibility, civil behavior, respecting yourself and others, or contributing to your neighborhood into the usual mix of victimization, entitlement, and extortion that they usually spout.
When these young people are constantly told that ANY KIND OF BEHAVIOR IS JUST FINE, why should we be surprised when some of them decide that it's just fine to kill each other?
And the establishment, including city ahll and the police, don't have the guts to call them out.
    The status quo of KCMO.

  18. Did everyone see the new obama flag? You know, the one he replace the blue star field with his face. Now that is art. Welcome to the new world order.

I think the cruelty toward Byron simply because of his VERY liberal views shows that SOME conservatives are unduly hostile.

It's about compassion people, even if we disagree. Byron has NEVER name called yet there is hostility from people who seem fanatical. It's a sad commentary on how bad politics makes people behave.

  22. Thanks to Midtown Mom & others who understand my frustration. Calling me a fag will not change my opinion regarding equal rights for gays. Claiming that I'm 'the biggest racist' on this blog will not stop me from pointing out the racism that is the root cause of all of your problems.

Some of wondered out loud why I read this blog. I'm interested in anthropology. Kansas City is unique. Watching it fail & trying to understand the reasons why, are simply something I'm interested in. A real world problem instead of a chess problem.

  23. you're still a bitch boi.

  24. "racism that is the root cause of all of your problems"

Racism still exists because people like Byron keep making stupid comments about skin color.

Racism exists because of people like you.
