TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY CHARTER CONTROVERSY!!! MAYBE AN ETHICS VIOLATION FOR MAYOR SLY ON PRE-SIGNED RESIGNATIONS?!?!

Last week Steve Vockrodt of the KC Biz Journal broke a big story regarding how Mayor Sly James works . . .

Mayor James keeps undated resignations from appointees

It's a mean-spirited tactic that reveals a basic lack of trust not only in people who want to serve Kansas City but also in his own judgement. Sadly, pre-signed resignations reveal that Kansas City politics has devolved and people are no longer willing to put the needs of this town over their own interests . . . Even worse, Mayor Sly clearly doesn't trust his own supporters to do the right thing.

But it's getting worse . . .

KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS AND POLITICAL INSIDERS ARE SAYING THAT MAYOR SLY'S "PRE-SIGNED RESIGNATIONS" MIGHT REPRESENT A VIOLATION OF THE CITY CHARTER!!!

Subsequent reporting from KSHB reminds us . . .

Without these letters, the Mayor could suggest board members or commissioners be removed, but a process involving the city council would be required for their removal.

To wit . . .

BEHIND THE SCENES: THERE'S AN ETHICS CHALLENGE TO MAYOR SLY ON THE BASIS THAT THESE PRE-SIGNED RESIGNATIONS SUBVERT THE CHARTER AND CITY HALL PROCESS FOR REMOVING APPOINTEES!!!

Here's the irony . . .

THIS BEHIND THE SCENES CHALLENGE IS COMING FROM ONE OF MAYOR SLY'S APPOINTEES WHO DIDN'T LIKE BEING REMINDED OF A PRE-SIGNED RESIGNATION!!!

So I guess he was right . . . You can't trust anybody when it comes to Kansas City politics.

Also . . . Don't get too excited . . . KCMO Ethics ISN'T JUST an oxymoron and a bit of a bad joke. It's also a VERY SLOW MOVING part of  City Hall.

Supporters might argue the pre-signed resignations are old news but the ETHICS CHALLENGE TO MAYOR SLY YOU READ FIRST RIGHT HERE ON TKC!!!

However . . . Questions over this potential charter violation not only reveal that Mayor Sly and his newbie staff are too smart for their own good but also are starting to face a great deal of pushback when it comes to getting their way without question.

DEVELOPING . . .

  2. "No longer willing to put the city's nabeeds above their own interests"?
When did that last happen in KCMO? It must have been sometime right around the time electricity was discovered!
And WHO are today's servant leaders?

  4. That's a really shitty tactic and I think much less of Mayor Sly after hearing about this.

I have always felt that people see others as they, themselves, are.

People who don't trust others are, themselves, usually untrustworthy.

  5. I would have to think this is a huge ethics issue as well as a huge well maybe the setting up of a hostile work environment.

Plus how can you be a whistle blower if at same time a paper shows up saying you have resigned?

  6. Dan Cofran has been trying to sell this story all day.

  7. So I guess Tony and Dan made up!

    Everybody wins.

Not likely. This is a real problem for Sly, he's not a nice guy and should be ashamed of himself for how he treats others.

  8. Sly's ok, but has a shitty staff. They refuse to communicate.

  9. With all the millions of dollars being moved from one account to another at the council's whim and THIS is an ethical lapse to worry about?
The forest and trees don't evn come close!

  12. Then again, I only read news for the tits.

  13. Why shouldn't the Mayor hold his appointees accountable?

Isn't that what you ask for all the time Tony - Accountability at City Hall? Now you've got it. What are you complaining about?

    1. If the mayor doesn't trust the appointee he shouldn't have appointed them. They always have a limited duration of service for this reason. This isn't for life.

  17. Retraction And Apology To Mr. Louie Wright

Regarding TKC posts published on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 11:49 a.m.; Friday, May 13, 2011 at 4:47 p.m.; and Monday, May 16, 2011 at 8:00 p.m.: This blog is retracting those entries, and they have now been deleted from the archives.

In the context of a tense debate over the MAST ambulance merger into the Kansas City Fire Department, this blog reported and offered commentary on arguments from anonymous tipsters aimed against former Local 42 Union President Louie Wright. TKC acknowledges that the claims were not verified and that such claims should be viewed as baseless.

TKC agrees with, recognizes, respects and acknowledges Mr. Wright’s assertion that he has never profited from any charity work for the United Way or any other charitable or not for profit organization, with which he is or has been affiliated.

Moreover, TKC would like to apologize to Mr. Wright for any distress caused by the posts.

  19. If someone felt so aggrieved couldn't they just send a certified letter to the Mayor rescinding their resignation?

  20. I don't know...Funk had Aggie Fathouse sign her resignation letter before he would let her be on Parks Board. Is wss probably a very good idea too bad he didn't use it.

  22. Heard that the bright idea came from Mr. Ruiz (Garza's hubby) on the Mayor's staff. That Ruiz and Garza had the bright idea to then move their personal "friendlies" onto various boards. The rumor went on to say that when the Mayor caught wind of what was going on he stopped it at the submitting resignations stage. Which is why no futher action has been taken.
