BREAKING!!! KCPD CHIEF FORTÉ TOUTS DROP IN KANSAS CITY HOMICIDES!!!

The latest blog post from KCPD Chief Forté is exceptionally important. Here's the leading point of his argument . . .

"After a disturbing start to 2012, Kansas City’s homicide rate is now at its lowest point in five years. We have 61 homicides to date so far. At this time during the last four years, we were at 65 homicides, with the exception of 2009, when we had 72."

Please read the Chief's post in its entirety: Homicides are at lowest point in five years

Lower numbers are good and the progress touted by the Chief is important.

However . . . It's also important to remember that the uptick in Kansas City Homicides started about five years ago at the end of Mayor Kay's term. She did NOTHING to address the problem. Mayor Funkhouser pretty much ignored the issue and Mayor Sly's contribution to the discussion has been about average but seems much better than his predecessors.

Other issues that aren't addressed in KCPD homicide numbers:

FRUSTRATION from the Rank & File with the dept.

SPILLOVER . . . Surrounding cities like Independence, MO have complained we're just pushing out problems their way.

SUSTAINABILITY . . . Again, we celebrated lower homicide numbers last year and then people started killing each other again. It's my hope that we aren't just repeating a cycle of press releases.

Nevertheless . . . The struggle to curb Kansas City deadly violence is constant. The KCPD Chief is CLEARLY making the issue his top priority and that's not only exceptionally encouraging but a change from the status quo in Kansas City.

  2. Since neither Sly nor Forte' have done anything in particular, why not credit Aim4Peace and blind luck? Or hot weather and the All Star Game?
Or maybe Jim Glover's secret jobs plan?
PR is easy, but facts are very stubborn things.

  3. Homicides are down by four!!!! Too bad aggravated assaults are way up. Translation, they're shooting at each other more than ever but they aren't good enough shots to make it count. Nice try CHUMP FORTE!!

  4. Murders in the black community have nothing to do with the cops and their fucking morale.

Who cares if cops are unhappy, as much unhappiness as they spread in the city they overlord? Send those militant skinheads back to Iraq!

Do you think there's as many as 2 good cops for every ten? Discuss.

    1. Strange how dissatisfaction with KCPD increases with CHUMP FORTE's diversification push. Of course homicide rates correlate with PD morale. A motivated beat cop goes the extra mile, he/she does a better job out on the streets. They know who the players are, & when one of the animals kills another one they have a good idea as to who and where to find said animal, thus preventing that animal from continuing it's rampage. An unmotivated, underpaid, beat cop who's been betrayed by his/her command staff doesn't care when the animals attack each other. They don't go the extra mile to document who's affiliated with who or feuding with who. So when animal one murders animal two, the investigative elements have less information to go on, which of course allows animal one to avoid capture!

  5. Apparently all the blacks who could aim a gun are dead.

  8. Bahahahaha....ur shitting me right Chief??? Even the sun shines on a dog's ass from time to time! Your "hot spot" patrols have nothing to do with a reduction in homicides. The fast majority of officers in KC are not happy with their jobs right now and the list of reasons are too long to list on here. You sir have lost touch with your officers and it need only take a few minutes at a roll call to learn that. If you are judging your success as Chief based on the number of homicides in this city then you have already failed. "The final test of a leader is that he leaves behind him in other men, the conviction and the will to carry on." - Walter Lippman or how about this one "My own definition of leadership is this: The capacity and the will to rally men and women to a common purpose and the character which inspires confidence." - General Montgomery

  9. Like trigid winter weather, record breaking heat waves tend to keep the thugs indoors in more temperate conditions.

Watch what happens when the daytime highs are in the low 90's or lower.....

  10. Doesn't change the fact that there are 300+ murderers runnin' around certain zip codes in this city... A dozen years with less than 60% clearance rate = hundreds of murderers runnin free... It's that simple...

Now, surely some of them have killed each other off, but that's another story...

  15. I thought Tracy McClendon-Cole's charade, Aim 4 Peace, was the only thing that reduced homicides.

  17. So because someone "says" the murders are down, I can now let my family out of the bomb shelter so we can make a run to another city for safety, ya know a city with a future???

  18. I have to say that 3:36 is 120% correct with his posting. Thank you for writing that. I think a lot of us feel that way...

  19. Touting low violent crime numbers has always been the kiss of death (no pun intended). Everytime someone mentions how the numbers are down, or they want to stay below a certain number, the onslaught begins.
