Press Conference: Campaign for an American DREAM has arrived to Kansas
City.

Deportable undocumented students are walking across America for the DREAM ACT

KANSAS CITY- The Campaign for and American DREAM(CAD) will be having a Press Conference at Noon, Monday July 23rd at El Centro, 650 Minnesota Avenue Kansas City, KS. CAD is a grassroots organization led by undocumented youth that is walking from San Francisco to Washington DC for the passage of a comprehensive Federal DREAM Act. CAD has been on the road walking since March 10th, 2012 and they are currently in Kansas Cityeducating and empowering the communities.

"We must continue fighting for the DREAM Act", says Veronica Gomez. "Even though President Obama has issued a memorandum granting Deferred Action(DA) to qualifying undocumented youth, this does not mean that all undocumented youth will be granted relief from deportation". Veronica states, "it is important that legislators pass the DREAM Act and not use bandaid solutions".

CAD took action in a sit in and hunger strike at the Obama Campaign Office in Denver, Colorado demanding that the President issue and Executive order stopping the deportation of DREAM Act eligible youth. Instead we got a memorandum with DA that does not qualify to all undocumented youth in this country.

"I do not qualify for President Obama's DA", states Alex Aldana who arrived to the US at the age of 16. "It is important that we work towards a more comprehensive DREAM Act, where talented undocumented youth like myself can be implemented into society". "We will continue walking and empowering our communities to stand up and fight back for equal justice".

The Federal DREAM Act would create a pathway for undocumented youth to become legalized. Without the DREAM Act, memorandums like the DA from the Obama Administration will not legalize our youth. "President Obama's DA is a step in the right direction", says Raymi Gutierrez, the only US Citizen walking with CAD, "but this is simply not enough".

CAD will continue walking across the country, empowering and educating communities on why it is important that we continue to fight for the Federal DREAM Act. CAD started in San Francisco, covering California and moving east passing through Nevada, Utah, Colorado and now Kansas. The route also includes Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Georgia, West Virginia, Virginia, and Maryland. CAD will Arrive in DC on March 2nd, just 4 days before the presidential elections.

###

CAD's mission is to walk across the nation from San Francisco to D.C creating dialogue around the passage of the DREAM Act and fixing our broken immigration system with the clause of equality, unity, and diversity. CAD believes all people are equal, all those who are oppressed should be united, and our daily lives and the Campaign itself highlight diversity.

  1. The Americam Dream has been replaced by the African American and Mexican American nightmare.

  2. The courage of the Dreamers is humbling & inspiring. They are risking deportation to, what for them, is a foreign country. African-American & Mexican Americans are Americans. Like most poor people, the American Dream doesn't apply to them. They do not have an equal chance. The Dreamers are hoping, for what I fear will not happen, that our country will do the right thing.

  3. It would be so preferable to have every single Mexican to move to the US, if we could, at the same time, rid ourselves of these fucking NIGGERS. Mexicans = fine, NIGGERS = disaster

  4. Aren't we patiently waiting for the government to come up with an identity system for work permits, and get it implemented? Get em on the tax rolls so they can pay their fair share, and get insurance, and drivers licenses like the rest of us?

Nother thing that has to wait until after the election, I guess.

  5. This was a huge failure for Obama. Having controlled both houses, there is no excuse for not having passed this. People are getting deported who can't even remember having lived in their so-called native country.

I'm all for deporting anyone who came over illegally as an adult, but it seems kind of stupid to kick the kids out after we spent so much money feeding and educating them.

  6. I dunno. I don't see giving special treatment to any illegal as progress.

  7. The legal immigrant has to fill out endless forms, pay large somes of money, has to find a sponser, and has to wait to become a citizen. I guess its easier to just do it illegally. What a slap in the face of the legal immigrant.

  8. Dont speak about something you know nothing about 328

  9. I can't seem to get past the word 'illegal'. They have no rights because they are not legitimate American's and they should not be allowed to stay in America. They do not pay into the American tax system 'legitimately' and they are a drain on our local, state and national tax dollars. They should take the example of other countries who stay in their country and fight for freedom - they don't have to flee 'illegitimately' to America and make demands here for citizenship when they have never made demands for change in their own (home) country - I'm just sayin.

  10. 6:42, they are not risking deportation, at least not at the moment, because our failure of a President is telling Border Patrol and Immigration to scale back on their lawful duties.

SO, please, don't make these folks heroes for a risk that is not currently a risk.

I like many Americans have empathy for these people, they would have the support of ALL American people if they would just do it legally.

The illegals are not helping their cause by making "demands" and by doing it so publicly, so defiantly, marching on the streets of the USA.

Can you imagine if the roles were reversed and Americans were doing this in Mexico???? We would be locked up if not injured or killed on the streets if we were to make the demands in Mexico.

I am not without a heart, I just want to see it done the right way, the legal way, just like my ancestors did and so many other families I know have done.

  14. Ok lets get it clear:

1.- Your ancestors came here illegally, destroying indigenous communities and taking over a land that wasnt theirs to beging with.

2.- Immigrant families come here because of global disasters the United States has caused in other third world countries such as NAFTA, which fucks over Mexico with American corporations that devaluates their economy and forces them to migrate to many countries, for a better life.

3.Young undocumented immigrants are fighting for a greater purpose than the DREAM ACT, and i believe it is the most important Civil rights movement of our nation as of right now.

4.- the broken immigration system has separated families, put over 5,000+ children with foster homes because of the deportation of their parents. Currently hosts the American version of concentration camps, well known as " Detention Centers" where private corporations and banks such as Wells fargo, profit of undocumented immigrants detained for stupid reasons such as not having a valid license. ICE and Homeland security have deported over 1 million innocent hard working people and only 10% of them had criminal record and felonies.

    5. There is currently no "legal way" or pathway, or line to apply to come here "legally" to the states, and that's a fact. Most contries that provide Visas and working permits are not necessarily third world contries, and the ones that do apply, have them in very small amounts and yes, it is very pricy. So Pricy many families give up everything they have to try "to apply", and if they dont qualify, they are forced to come in other very risky ways, such as crossing the border or overstaying their turist visas.

Most importantly, undocumented immigrants are not only Mexicans, we have a huge diversity of African american, muslim, polish, asian community. 11 million people to be more accurate.

Currrently americans go to other contries and overstay their visas as well, with no punishment and a shit load of benefits, so again, mainly White priviledged folk get to do that.

It's easier to point a finger and blame somebody. It is something wrong and embarrassing that the United Nations currently has sued the United States for all these discrepancies and countless of anti immigrant, racist, and inhumane treatment to children and families of undocumented immigrants.

Down the line, and the reality is that undocumented immigrants will risk anything to remain "home", in this country, and destroying families will not fix the problem. it is time to educate ourselves and work for a better community and check your privilege, because we cannot afford to live one single-issue life.
