Once again the critics of Council Dude Jermaine Reed are taking aim at the actions of one of this town's youngest legislators.
To wit . . .
COUNCIL DUDE JERMAINE REED IS TAKING FIRE FROM CRITICS WHO DISAGREE WITH HIS APPOINTMENT OF BIANCA TILLARD GATES TO PIAC!!!
A bit of background . . .
"The Public Improvements Advisory Committee consists of 13 people, two from each council district and a chairperson, appointed by the mayor and City Council . . . The PIAC's primary function is to solicit resident input and make recommendations regarding both the citywide and neighborhood portions of the capital budget."
The basis of the objections . . .
- Like Council Dude Reed . . . Ms. Tillard Gates doesn't have a lot of community or real world leadership experience.
- A TKC TIPSTERS says: "The appointment is really just more of the same 3rd District patronage and support of a prominent Eastside family that is EXTREMELY politically connected and wealthy and might not have the same interests as the average 3rd District voter."
- Another KC Insider notes: "As with Mr. Reed, there are some real questions about the residency of his recent PIAC appointment. Her car tags and address listings bring up some relevant questions that need to be answered." Some of the best TKC TIPSTERS investigated as much and noted multiple addresses listed for the new PIAC appointee online and biz listings that contradicted one another and concurred with the complaint: "The whole family uses that address in order to do business." (Additionally, a listing on the Missouri Secretary of State's site notes one address of the appointee in Overland Park . . . Others claim she recently resides in the Rivermarket area and a whitepages listing offers support of that theory as well - Ms. Tillard Gates was not available to comment for TKC at the time of this posting - We welcome any response she offers) - However, given that the City's Ethics Commission is non-existent . . . None of this might matter. Still, PIAC appointees are required to reside in the District they represent.
What's most important here is that Councilman Reed is ONCE AGAIN FACING A GREAT DEAL OF PUSHBACK from his constituents who have been consistently dissatisfied with his performance on the Council.

NIGGERS do NOT have to play by the same rules as humans. They don't follow the same speed limits, affirmative action rules or virtually anything else. Being black, is a god send when it comes to most public rules. Hey, I'm black, I don't have to comply and if you don't like it, YOU must be racist.

When folks just keep doing the same thing with the same old names over and over again and then wonder why the results don't change, you really have to wonder if they just don't have a death wish for their own community.

What does "politically connected" mean besides being able to stick your own snout into the public treasury?
I have dealt with that woman and she embodies the definition of incompetent.
How can it be patronage - PIAC reps do NOT get paid or reimbursed anything and they are expected to attend tons of meetings and hearings in the community. It's a very hard and thankless appointment. Some people think it is a stepping stone for city council - but I don't think there is much evidence that it helps.

12:57, you're dead wrong. PIAC reps have a great deal of power and influence. Both Circo and Johnson were PIAC reps before coming to the Council. Other PIAC reps have been appointed to more influential roles following their PIAC terms.
This is Reed's way of helping a third-generation snot nose bully (I've dealt with her) get a toe hold in politics. He's no doubt hoping grandpa Ollie Gates will put cash in Jermaine's campaign coffers. Bianca has no earlier involvement with the city; she has only been Jermaine's campaign treasurer. And are we really to believe she is back living at mama Kiva's house? Highly doubtful.
Bianca is, and has always been, a huge bully. I've heard very solid stories, (one confirmed by her) of her using physical violence against people that make her angry. This will no doubt put a spark in PIAC meetings.
What a misstep on Jermaine's part. Again.

I personally know Bianca. Yes, she is young, which is why she has not been heavily involved. The girl went away for college, moved back, and immediately sought out ways she could make an impact. She is an apt go getter. She is committed to the third district, in fact, she was recently instrumental in securing a grant for the improvement of the Vine Street District. This is independent of her PIAC role. She was also instrumental in securing necessary funding for that area for the All Star game - a no brainer, but she did it. She saw it as an opportunity to draw appropriate attention and revenue to that area. The impact she and her family have made in KC, particularly in the third district, ought to be commended since no one else is developing east of Troost. Appointments are often awarded to those who play critical roles in election campaigns...it is done all the time. This time, it was well deserved.

Another bully looking to "bring revenue" to her contacts. Just what the Third District needs. And how were the "grants"spent for 18th and VIne and where did the money end up for the All Star Game.
Just another grifter-in-training and the residents east of Troost have suffered from way too many of those already.
It's really too bad when young people like Reed fall into the same old routine that has ruined the neighborhoods for years. Same old cheap wine in a bright shiney bottle.

4:10, I personally know Bianca as well, and have for many years. Your assessment is way off base. Bianca is known for being a bully, resorting to violence, taking the easy way out, trading on her race and her family name to get out of scrapes. 1:11's description is pretty darn accurate.
Bianca is using her mother's address to qualify living in the Third. She does not live there. Her Jaguar was recently seen with JoCo plates, which lines up with her living in Overland Park. Or she lives in KCMO and uses an old address to register her car, no doubt saving a bundle on car insurance.
As for her "critical role" in Jermaine's campaign, it didn't exist. He needed the Gates name on his signs. When Jermaine registered his campaign committee in Jan of 2011, Gates was using her mother's address. But when a Missouri LLC was formed just a few months earlier, she lived in OPKS. And she also had a River Market address during this time, which is not in the Third.
Gates "securing" funding?? Are you joking? That funding was in place well before Bianca entered the game. To claim credit is disingenuous but is true Gates form.
Try to save face Jermaine. Make a new puck pronto, and not one hiding behind mommy's street address.
Reed gets to recommend whom he wants whether you agree with the choice or not. Now, no more whinning!

Jermaine Reed and Bianca Tillard-Gates are both young people from the 3rd with great flourishing minds. Growth is uncomfortable and change is inevitable. Most people that are against the two don't understand the previous sentence. Just understand this, when the change comes and you are taking advantage of the things that came to fruition (as you should), just put a smile on and say thank you if you get a chance.

These claims that Mr. Reed and Ms. Tillard-Gates are incompetent are completely preposterous! Those claiming to know Bianca personally only know about her through slanderous stories others have told you of who they think she is. Mr. Reed & Ms. Tillard-Gates have the best interest of the community and their constituents in mind as well as the fortitude & tenacity to make great strides and improvements for the 3rd district. Being KC natives themselves, they are passionate about rebuilding the 3rd district and making it better than it has ever been. So let's stop focusing on the inconsequential details and let Mr. Reed & Ms. Tillard-Gates focus on the task at hand...improving the 3rd district.

Clearly you people don't know Jermaine or Bianca! I've never seen anyone take as much pride in KC as these two young people. I've known them both for a very long time and all they've ever tried to do is help and make positive impacts on our community. They have always had a heart for the people of Kansas City and tried to find ways to make the city better. Bianca can't apologize for her privilege, however she is not the bully she is being portrayed as. She is a kind hearted, down to earth, go getter, who cares about and for people... And she does NOT drive a Jaguar! Wrong person, please complete more thorough research next time!
Wow, I too know Bianca personally and she is an extremely down to earth, dedicated young woman who has fought hard for the 3rd District.
She and her family have chosen to develop east of Troost, WITHOUT taking the handouts and "incentives" that developers downtown and in other areas have greedily taken.
Furthermore, they produce quality projects in communities where other developers are just looking for a cash cow.
How many developers do you see picking up not only their own trash but that of their neighbors? Personally picking it up, not hiring someone else to do it.
Yes Bianca has a family that has worked in this community for a long time, and she CHOSE to come home because she believes in this City. She fights for this City, and she fights for the residents who often don't have a voice.
Now if that makes her a bully so be it, and we need more like her.
