KCPD Officer Fired For Suspect Treatment

Star: "After five years of continuances and delays, the Kansas City Police Board voted unanimously to fire an officer for his handling of a handcuffed drug suspect in November 2006, according to a written decision released Wednesday."

A pro arbitrator said the police officer in question should have been reinstated without back pay . . . The money quote from the article: "Police board members said they could not determine whether the officer put his nightstick into the man’s mouth (ewwwwwwww), but they said he “used excessive force, unnecessary profanity and engaged in cruel, degrading, or inhumane treatment.”

  1. Let's see, in five years KCMO has had around 560 homicides and who knows how many other violent crimes?
The Police Board is really on top of its game!

    1. He hardly did anything to serve time for. He broke department policy, he didn't break the law. So he roughed up a known drug dealer who was selling crack to the neighborhood. Who cares? Discipline him and move on. Its hardly worth firing him for.

  5. Put the shoe on the other foot.

Can you imagine what would happen to a civilian if they put a night stick in a cops mouth looking for something?

  6. Difference is the cops don't have crack in their mouth you idiot.

  7. No KCPD cops just steal from their mothers in nursing homes, exchange arrests for sex, and get arrested by highway patrol officers for driving drunk, and get caught with drugs in the trunk of their car..... you idiot.

  9. How could the Board drag this out for so long. Isn't there someone out there that negotiates with the Board in the interest of the police officers. Oh yeah, that's the FOP. I guess this officer was not a member of the FOP because if he was I'd be really red-faced about how long it took to iron this thing out. Could handling this discipline possibly be one of the things negotiated in the last MOU??? Was this issue brought up in the new MOU??? Who knows, neither the Dept nor the FOP provided any information to non-members, which they claim represent. The FOP...working for U.

  12. It took so long to deal with due to pending litigation and court issues with the Federal govt. It was dealt with and now the BOPC was able to deal with it.

  13. It's little wonder there is a no snitch policy, the way the Police behave it does little to make anyone want to get involved with kcpd. There is so much corruption with the police stealing, driving drunk, prostitution, dealing drugs, etc.
Not to mention these posts where it is obvious which posts are by cops.

  15. Hey 10:54 - Same Scab bullshit from a mouth who has never done anything for anyone. This guy is a member and has had an FOP attorney the entire time. We won our arbitration and again the BOPC went against all evidence presented. If you had any time on at all, you would know that the BOPC has conducted financial terrorism on many other members. They drag on the cases hoping that the member will just resign and walk away. He will appeal this decision and continue to use the attorney. You continue to reap the rewards of those that choose to join an organization that provides them a voice. You choose to sit on the sidelines and bitch. What will you do for the members?

KCPD should hook up with the fire union...there you will NEVER get fired, you might get bullied to leave, but at KCFD no one under the UNION ever gets fired, hell you can be bat crazy, entice minor females into a station, and do drug deals at work ...and you still wont get fired...think about the opportunities under the local mafia AKA KCFD - who trades off with the council on who sucks whos dick....just a thought!

  22. 1210am, hey asshole, You don't know me or what i've done. However I do know the FOP and what they've done. They screwed over their membership on the retirement deal by making back door deals with the Board and presenting the worst case scenario to it's members. Oh they want 65 yoa...remember that bullshit. When I heard that crap I went directly to the Board President and he told me that 65 yoa was not what they wanted and they had not decided between 32 adn 35 years of service. And then I go to the FOP meeting where the masses were told that that's exactly what the Board wanted was 65 yoa and they were not willing to budge. So the FOP told its members that this was what was good for them and they believed it. Ask the E-board president about it, if he's not a liar he'll tell you about the back room deals he's been involved with. When the retirement was in it's worst shape ever, I heard FOP Board members saying that the wanted to make the investiment decisions and get onto the Retirement Board to make it better. I'm not saying they can or can't but I'll trust the future of my retirement to the professionals not Board memebers of the FOP. It's kind of funny that they were calling for the head of Jim...who does this stuff for a living. BTW I'm not a member of the FOP anymore as I stated above and I never will be again. Maybe I'll create a non-FOP collective bargaining unit that includes ALL OF THE NON-FOP members. I personally don't need any organization, including the FOP, telling me whats best for me. I know whats best for me. You say I reap the benefits of the members, I get no benefits. Let's see, did I get raises before the FOP was our bargaining unit?? Yes I did. Have I gotten any since??? 2% WOW great job. How much did the FF get? How much did the city employees get?? Did I get fired for no reason prior to the FOP? Nope. Have I been fired for no reason since? Nope. The FOP wants to be Local 42, guess what, YOU'RE NOT. You have absolutely no power. Power comes with the threat to strike, we can't do that. If you wanna believe the crap the FOP puts out that's fine. But I also have the right to have my own opinion about the FOP. And just because mine differs from yours does not make me a do nothing "scab" as you put it. I've done a lot for a lot of people on this dept and I will continue to do so but I will not believe any of the crap the FOP puts out. I've been lied to enough.

  23. FOP sucks as bad as Local 42. It's just FOP leaders are rookies.

  24. Can't trust FOP or BOPC7/19/12, 2:55 PM

I've been on the job over 25 years and I agree 100% with 7:47. For years the FOP leadership has claimed all kinds of accomplishments, but the truth is they have never gotten us anything (good) we wouldn't have gotten anyway. Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of the clowns on the BOPC either. Dragging out decisions in the hopes the employee cannot afford to continue and will quit is pure chickenshit. I have belonged to the FOP during 2 different eras and finally figured out it was a total waste of money.

  25. Agree %100 747...The FOP is a bunch of liars.
