THE TKC SATURDAY NIGHT PLAYLIST!!! ALL-STAR GAME HYPE CAN'T CHANGE KANSAS CITY'S RECORD OF FAIL!!!

It's important for Kansas City to reject every mainstream media myth regarding the upcoming MLB All-Star game if only because the illusion that everything is great in Kansas City is dangerous.

It bears repeating that the "economic impact" constantly touted is nothing more than marketing hype bought and paid for by Major League Baseball and most "benefit" to this town will be siphoned off by silly politicos pushing their way toward the spotlight.

Even worse . . . Kansas City's baseball team is pretty much minor league endeavor and part of the great disparity in pro-sports that makes most of the games non-competitive.

Finally, this All Star Game exercise in PR allows local politicos to pretend that they have accomplished something more than just spending a ton of taxpayer cash on big party that has little longstanding benefit.

Get it straight, this old and busted town has a lot of problems that need to be addressed this Summer but Kansas City's political class would rather celebrate a baseball game than work on more urgent priorities.

And all of this along with Sara Jean Underwood has inspired tonight's Youtube playlist.

As always, thank you for reading this week and have a fun and safe weekend.

  6. It's 1992 all over again!

The financial crisis of 2008 claimed nearly 40 percent of Americans' wealth, the Federal Reserve reported last week. The new figures, showing Americans' net worth has plunged back to what it was in 1992, left economists shuddering while sharpening attention on the pocketbook issues at the center of the presidential campaign. But for families across the country, the report, tracking the period from 2007 to 2010, confirms what they already felt in their gut and saw in their checkbooks. It is one more reminder that they're not alone.

The 40 percent that was lost mostly consisted of inflated home values that are now beginning to approach reality. This hit the middle class the hardest because almost all of their wealth was invested in their home. The rich have prospered & the very poor are still very poor. "When you've got nothing, you've got nothing to lose. You're invisible now ..."

The swells will attend the baseball game, because it is for their benefit alone, just as the sales of Apple products have not suffered with the disclosure of their Chinese workers' conditions. As one TKC commenter noted, "I hope the workers work out their problems, but I still want one." He/she doesn't understand that they are contributing to the workers' exploitation. Or, maybe even worse, they just don't care.

  9. 12:19 if buying a non-Apple makes you feel high and mighty then more power to you. Just don't look too deeply into the working conditions of every other Chinese product you own in your home... you might find that it becomes much harder to be so santicmonious.

  10. Byron inflated home values that's correct and the truly sick part is most people are paying property taxes on their homes valued on those inflated numbers right here in KC. How people are missing this and not demanding an adjustment is astounding.

  11. I don't know but that was a pretty good win today against the redbirds and a good stretch of ball the last five games or so. You know that baseball is a game and is entertainment don't you? Just enjoy it and have fun.
