BREAKING!!! MAYOR SLY BLINKS AND BACKS OFF PROPERTY TAX!!! REGRESSIVE KANSAS CITY SALES TAX IS HIS LATEST SCHEME!!!
Good times . . . Kansas City's Mayor clearly didn't have much confidence in his grand scheme to raise property taxes and thereby kick old ladies out of their homes. So he switched it up.
On one hand this shows a great ability to compromise that fulfills campaign promises. Then again, this move once again makes it look like the Mayor doesn't know what he's doing.
Nevertheless . . .
In August, Mayor Sly James wants KCMO voters to approve a half-cent increase in the city sales tax.
And that reminds me:
YET ANOTHER REGRESSIVE SALES TAX ON THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN KANSAS CITY IS STILL A BAD MOVE FOR THE WORKING POOR!!! RAISING TAXES WHEN KCMO KEEPS SPENDING HAND OVER FIST (EW) ON PET PROJECTS REMAINS A HYPOCRITICAL MOVE!!!
Also . . .
OH YEAH . . . AND THIS TOWN'S TAX BURDEN IS ALREADY HORRIBLE!!!
One more thing . . . TKC was the first and best to blast Mayor Sly for the property tax scheme while all of the other media outlets are still enamored by his smile. You're welcome.
So, Mayor Sly clearly has the ability to quickly switch positions when it looks like he's headed for a loss and that's cool. Buuuuut, MORE TAXES for Kansas City in any configuration during this crap economy REMAINS A BAD IDEA.

It'll win.
ReplyDeleteI can give him credit for hearing what people were saying and changing direction. We would be in much better shape if previous Mayors would have listened instead of just finding another way to sell a bad idea. Yes, that's kinda what he's doing here but much more open than what happened in the past.
ReplyDeleteSpend the next year cleaning house and rebuilding the public trust, Mr. Mayor.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. There are still a lot of lazy workers that need to go. But I'm glad he could see the property tax was a loser.
ReplyDeletecould you find another picture of him? One not in a green tie? Just asking.
ReplyDeleteSly seems like he has turned into such a crook.
ReplyDeleteWait till you see your water bill after $500 Million in bonds!!!
ReplyDeleteWell ole Sly figured he couldn't screw you one way so he will screw you another way.
ReplyDeleteNow you see why me and my money don't part company in KC-MO very often.
Had my way I would never spend a damn dime there but isn't that easy to do.
Listen and learn Sly. This tax not only hurts people in KC but it will also have a negative impact on small business.
ReplyDeleteCity Hall should get their hands out of our pocket.
Sly is lucky because tax stuff is boring.
ReplyDeleteThe campaign will show falling bridges, collapsing roads, bursting water pipes, and buildings tumbling to the ground.
ReplyDeleteThen after a handful of voters show up and passes it, a good deal of the money will go to operate and maintain the streetcar and "improve" infrastructure for the new taxpayer-funded downtown hotel.
Don't folks in KCMO EVER learn?
I learned and left town....
