TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! MEMBERS OF KANSAS CITY'S LGBT COMMUNITY OBJECT TO BOY SCOUT EXECUTIVE SPEAKER @ UPCOMING MAYORS' PRAYER BREAKFAST!!!

A local LGBT group is standing up to what they believe are discriminatory policies and an upcoming speaker at a popular local gathering.

PROMO (Promoting Equality For All Missourians) recently noted their objections to Boy Scout Executive Robert Mazzuca speaking at the Greater Kansas City Mayors' Prayer Breakfast.

NOT SINCE OLD MAN DUNN MAKING CONTROVERSIAL REMARKS AT THIS GATHERING HAS THERE BEEN SO MUCH POTENTIAL FOR CONFLICT!!!

PROMO is calling into questions policies that they believe are discriminatory.

PROMO IS EVEN CALLING ON MAYOR SLY JAMES TO TAKE A STAND FOR KANSAS CITY'S LGBT COMMUNITY!!!

Take a look at their presser for more details . . .

LGBT community urges Kansas City Regional Mayors to take a stand against discrimination

Kansas City, MO: On March 8th, Boy Scouts of America Chief Scout Executive Robert Mazzuca will be hosted at the 2012 Greater Kansas City Mayors' Prayer Breakfast. Many area mayors -- in particular Kansas City Mayor Sly James -- are supportive of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community, though unfortunately the same cannot be said for Mr. Mazzuca or the Boy Scouts of America

The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) have a long history of discrimination against both gay youth and LGBT families. Most notably, BSA adopted a discriminatory Youth Leadership policy in 2004 stating "Boy Scouts of America believes that homosexual conduct is inconsistent with the obligations in the Scout Oath and Scout Law to be morally straight and clean in thought, word, and deed." Under this policy gay Boy Scout leaders are stripped of their positions in the organization and often denied access to the organization all together.

Also in 2009, BSA banned a lesbian couple from serving as volunteer Cub Scout leaders with their son's pack after learning of the women's sexual orientation. The family was told BSA does not allow gay and lesbian volunteers, and the local Boy Scouts District Director suggested that the couple would "push their lifestyle on the boys."

To have elected officials such as Mayor Sly James, who champions diversity, community, leadership, and social justice hold someone such as Robert Mazzuca up as a leader is not consistent with the values of Kansas City and the greater metro area.

Thus, PROMO calls on the Greater Kansas City Mayors and Mayors' Prayer Breakfast Committee members to speak out in support of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth being included in the Boy Scouts at all levels, and denounce the policy of the Boy Scouts of America to deny gay youth to participate in the Boy Scouts. In the future, PROMO hopes that the Mayors and Prayer Breakfast organizers, who share our mutual interests, will seek out a leader who commits to providing TRUE leadership qualities and who commits themselves to the betterment of the entire community.

  1. So what if they Boy Scouts disagree with the LGBT peeps....does that make them second-class and unable to speak at a Mayor's Prayer Breakfast? Come on, don't be so gay about it.

  3. On another bigoted note. Check out the Missouri House Speaker's Facebook Page. You know, the one that is sponsoring adding the bust of Rush Limbaugh to the State Capital.

Looks like he has some hottie slut daughters. Or are they prostitutes too?

  4. Um, it IS a prayer breakfast.

And assuming that means Christianity will be at the forefront of the religions and prayers, I'd point out that the bible has some pretty direct things to say about those who practice homosexuality, and they are much more harsh than the prohibitions of the Boy Scouts.

  5. Maybe those whose religious orientations object to homosexuality should press Sly James not to attend/offer support to organizations that promote the gay lifestyle and agenda.

  6. What does Reverand Cleaver say?

  7. I want to know if members of Promo regularly attend Mayors' Prayer Breakfast meetings. Or are they just out to get some free publicity?

    ReplyDelete
  8. I won't attend--no need tohear from someone who represents a group that chooses to discriminate against gays.

  9. Are there any Boy Scouts who are members of PROMO?

  10. Pastor Congressman Cleaver doesn't use the same Bible as others or he doesn't believe in the Bible, take your pick. He lies, is the Porker, Oinker for big spending on Capital Hill this month, is pro-choice, supports LGBT, etc. just for starters.

Using the same reasoning as the gay community, the Boy Scouts should allow hookers, drug addicts, felons to be leaders, true? It is the "choice" of both parties to be who they are...let's keep and protect everyone's rights and their free speech rights...and try and stay out of others peoples business and prayer breakfast, whadda say?

  11. When Cleaver was mayor, at one of the Prayer Breakfasts, the crowd was told to stand for the singing of "The Black National Anthem".
This "event" has long been a series or embarassing duds, including once at which Bill Dunn was criticized for his rather off-the-wall remarks.
It would be nice if the event were inclusive, but like everything else in KCMO it's all about dueling self-imprtant personalities and interest groups with one gripe or another.
    Pitiful!

  12. The bible doesn't believe in gays and neither do I! So, let's not try to change the bible like they want to rewrite the constitution. If you are gay, then be gay. Don't beg for shit that you don't deserve. You chose to be gay, now leave the constitution alone.

  13. Leave the Boy Scouts alone and just start up an alternative organization for LGBT youth. Glee Scouts, or whatever. Forcing change on old stubborn institutions is a waste of time.

  14. That’s the problem with religion today everyone just bends it in whatever manor it needs bending to work for them. If the Bible is the book of your religion then the word it says for you to live by should be what you follow. If that isn’t what you want to do then I guess it isn’t the book for you to stand behind when it suits you.

Who you pray to is your business and if it makes you feel better then by all means keep praying.

But I am sorry I have never seen any of what was supposed to be a holy book that in any way shape or form supports same sex marriage. Now I am sure there are those who have wrote their own versions of the Bible but I see no need to give them any credit. There is only one book called “The Bible”

Now the Boy Scouts have been around here a very long time and the way it has been operated has not changed at all. If LGBT folks don’t like what the BSA stands for then by all means stay clear of it and start your own Boy and Girl Group called something else and run it as you deem fit.

But stop trying to change or horn in on certain traditions or organizations that have been ran a certain way for many many years. Just shut up go off and do your own thing. Remember this it is you the LGBT folks who have chosen to be different not the rest of the world.

  15. PROMO is worthless as LGBT organizations go. They should stick to St. Louis where they started instead of trying to run roughshod over KC LGBT organizations.

  16. Fucking queers and their bullshit "groups". Maybe if they weren't so far off the normal behavior of humans and other animals, they (queers) would understand an upstanding organization. But no, let's be "gay" and tarnish and destroy everything we possibly can. Cause "we're queer and we're here" and all the other shit they throw up...

  17. Who the hell do they want Bishop Finn?

  18. Dont worry LBGT's, you'll be represented at the function, 3rd District Rep will be in attendance. Sly loves gays and so do Catholic priest and Black ministers.

  19. Ever notice how it's the folks who yell the loudest about (their perceived) intolerance of others are the ones who seem to actually be the most intolerant themselves? Hypocrites.

  20. Did you "ever notice" how so many self-appointed intellectuals actually think they are Andy Rooney?? Also, did ya "ever notice" how they resemble unadulterated assholes?
