It's cheaper than bullets and part of our political heritage.
To wit . . . Take a look at Kansas City Star columnist Yael T. Abouhalkah and his latest endorsement of Mayor Sly's costly billion dollar borrowing program.
Optimists, pessimists battle over KC's future
I like Yael's optimistic tone . . . I think all of that close, cuddly and pointless access to Mayor Sly is making him a nicer guy. Not nice enough to allow critical comments but still much more cheerful than his typical arrogant posturing.
Nevertheless . . . It's worth remembering that Yael also showed this same kind of enthusiasm for Mayor Funky early on and back when I was making jokes about his wife's feet.
However this isn't as important as the rhetorical tactic Mayor Sly is running into the ground . . .
MAYOR SLY IS SELLING ONE BILLION DOLLARS WORTH OF KANSAS CITY BORROWING WITH NOTHING MORE THAN CONSTANT SMILING AND PROMISES!!!
It's an interesting tactic . . . However, it's hard for me to believe that Kansas City will sink itself (further) into debt just because some politico has a nice grin.

ReplyDeleteThis massive borrowing has more to do with borrowing to pay for items now paid from the general fund. Basically the city is broke and wants to borrow to stay afloat, at least for a few more years.

ReplyDeleteYael has no choice but to endorse every plan of the Mayor because he was Sly's guy on the inside in securing the Star's endorsement for Sly for Mayor.
ReplyDeleteAnd after the Funk, who shot to hell any semblance of credibility Yael might have had, Yael is desperate for a winner to prove his opinion is both right and relevant, and that he should not be reassigned to covering events at say, Kemper Arena.
