Anti-Crime Activist Alonzo Washington Notes Kansas City's Screwed Up Priorities!!!

Today Alonzo Washington calls out Kansas City's leadership who seem more focused on tourist events than dealing with our horrific murder count.

Check it:

The murder rate grows to 22 as city leaders promotes tourism!

Think about this one before giving into a knee-jerk reaction. Mr. Washington is basically making the same point as so many fiscally Conservative Kansas City denizens who worry about mundane topics like this town's sinking bond rating.

It's important to note that even folks who don't play Kansas City politics are noticing an obsession with the trivial on behalf of elected officials in this cowtown. Meanwhile the inability of most elected leaders to deal with Kansas City's important problems is becoming more apparent every day.

DEVELOPING . . .

  1. What has Alonzo done to prevent crime?

    NOTHING!!!

Also, a review of his voting records shows he doesn't even participate in voting in local elections. If he's so fucking concerned about local leadership, why doesn't he participate in the voting process?

    He's a hypocrite!

  2. He's right for once. This admin is so out of touch. Cutting fire and police sure makes sense while dumping all that money into toy trains and tourism. Brilliant!

  3. Yiou're correct that the elected folks in KCMO don't place a priority on public safety, but they don't care much about streets, water pipes, housing, or much of anything else associated with municipal government.
But nothing's going to change until there's some serious leadership in the black community that demands parental supervision, individual responsibility, basic norms of public behavior, and self-worth and respect for others, instead of constantly revisiting the challenges of the '60s and making excuses for every kind of behavior, including crimes.
The police can do only so much when there is little in the way of neighborhood relationships, no cooperation at crime scenes, and an ongoing unwillingness to tesify in court.
So who are the local leaders of the 21st Century?
Bill Cosby can come to town and deliver this message only so often. Someone needs to make the point each and every day.

Alonzo has gotten so lazy that he's using Tony's two day old stuff and adding his own brand of illiteracy to it. Its like he's tony's alter ego.

  7. Bonds are DEBT.

The bonds are enslaving those who think their free, their not FREE nor it's the citizens, their debt, it's the tax payers who owe the debt! You and me.

The city acts like a 13 year old with an unlimited credit card that mommy and daddy taxpayers will pay; when we have nothing due to taxes and cost of living/inflation, what are we going to pay with?

If people don't stand up now we're going to loose it all.

  8. Going to loose it?????

It's done been lost and you are fucked.

alonzo cant wear that suit if the temp climbs above 84. The suits special woven blend of Korean polyester and orphan hair, will spontaneously combust, causing Zo's 90 wt. hair oil to catch fire, No Mike jackson pepsi commercial.
Should Alonzo catch fire he would sue Harold Penner for being white and selling 2 suits for 59.99.

  11. Nobody looks at Myspace anymore. A self-important attention whore trying to attain some credibility should have his own local TV talk show. He could have a musical 'posse' (big break for some local DJ hack that plays the same drum sample over and over) and a pasty white side kick he and his audience can make fun of on slow news (no murder) days. He could broadcast live from Folly Theater, and eventually trash it and move to Independence Mall, which will be fairly empty by then. Then....or now..... it's hard to take him seriously. I'm sure our great mayor secretly wishes he'd go away.

I may not always agree with Alonzo but he is right about this.

Too much focus on tourism is taking away attention from our neighborhoods. That needs to change and our City Council needs to wake up and realize that voters won't tolerate it.

  18. Actually, of course, KCMO voters have tolerated the very same upside-down priorities for decades and will continue to.
The homicides continue at the rate of two every week. Whowas the last mayor not re-elected because of the appalling number of murders? Who were the last members of the police board not reappointed? Who was the last police chief fired? ZERO.
There's no accountability in KCMO government because the voters have given up long ago and the folks at city hall know that when they need an election to renew current taxes or get new ones, they can always call on their insider consultants like Glorioso or Gray to trick, lie to, or scare residents into approving them. Look at crime and the current fire department budget cuts and get our your materials from the public safety sales tax and e-tax campaigns.
None of these issues could possible prevail based on performance or credibility, but the public's attention span is short, memories are shorter, and there's always some manuever to keep the hog trough full.
    Thanks for playing!

  19. Tony had made reference to cutbacks of police and firemen and he removed them.

ANd he deleted comment I had made in response that fire service staffing should be drastically reduced...and I wondered if the annual trends over the last couple decades in FIRES justified keeping the service staff levels as they are.

He deleted all that from his blog. Why? What pressures does he face through his emails from readers? This is the kind of stuff that only unions would armtwist about--and they do. We know they hold grudges and are experts at intimidation. I hope they didn't intimidate him into deleting these issues.

But that doesn't explain why references to police and fire reductions as part of city priorities disappeared at midday!

  20. Mr. Washington should either go back to an English writing class so he can learn grammar or have someone proof his writing. he even butchers his own headlines. seriously, it's difficult to read his self-promoting crap.
