Mayor Sly And City Council Look To Gut Kansas City Parks And Community Centers

Star: "Proposed cuts of $5 million will devastate parks and community centers, Kansas City park board members warned the City Council on Thursday."

Obviously, this isn't as big of a priority as The All-Star Game or Downtown Toy Train.

  1. They saved about 1.8 Million through global warming this year, but I guess that was needed for Scotch at the All-Star Game.

  2. Oh hell yes lets buy a drag strip to make a park then lets slash the budget.

    What a bunch of morons.

    Many predicted this happening.

  3. Bye-bye Park Board! Sly wants to be in charge of everything.

How about the $500,000 increase in Sly's office budget?

  4. It's tough to get too excited about parks cuts when Schulte wants to cut street work and firefighters. Give me a fucking break.

  5. Who cares? I never ever get any of the services they are talking about any way. Our parks and rec is a joke if you do not live in the inner city.

  6. Instead of spending time in the community centers, maybe the young people can just hang out by riding the new streetcar up and down the street. Isn't there anyone serious about what's going on at 12th and Oak?

  7. Awesome. They have to make these cuts because of Sly's several $200,000 salaries he wants to pay out. Sly-you don't make that kind of money working for the City. If you paid people, how could you maintain the mediocrity?

Sly's justusing the same formula that the swells at the Chamber use for hiring people. Their notion is that if you pay an incompetent person lots of money it somehow turns them into a real performer. Just go down to Union Station and see how much money rolls through the Chamber offices.
They mostly dress very nicely, though.

  9. 8:09, the Chamber is a waste of time and money. Let's see where their Big 5 goes. I can predict, it will go nowhere. Like the Green Impact Zone, it's money poured into salaries of incompetents with no measurable results.
